MYRIAD GENETICS, INC. Histotechnologist/Histotechnician in SALT LAKE CITY, Utah

Overview The Histotechnologist I will be responsible for various techniques involved in the preparation of tissue specimens for examination by the pathologist and subsequent molecular genetic testing. Responsibilities may include sample accessioning, re-embedding, microtomy, basic hematoxylin and eosin (HandE) staining as well as the possibility of immunohistochemical (IHC) staining, microscopic tumor identification as part of the pre-screening process for the digital pathology program, and macrodissection of tumor tissue. In addition, they will be involved with training as part of the Histotechnology OTJ training program, quality control, and maintenance of laboratory equipment.  Responsibility * Complying with the laboratory's technical, administrative and safety policies and procedures. * Participating in the laboratory's quality assurance plan, adhering to quality control and preventive maintenance policies and appropriately documenting these activities. * Following the laboratory's policies and procedures whenever test systems are not within acceptable limits and documenting the problem and any corrective action. * Troubleshooting and identifying problems that may adversely affect test performance and/or reporting of test results by initiating corrective action and using the defined electronic system to make the required management notification. * Performing proficiency testing in the same manner as routine samples. * Actively participating in successful and timely completion of training and competency assessment as outlined in the laboratory and departmental training programs. * Where competency has not been approved by supervision, will work under the direct supervision of an employee competent on the task. * Participating in continuing education according to accepted laboratory standards. * Participates in departmental and cross-functional teams to resolve problems or implement projects. * Can serve as a trainer on technical processes within the group.  Qualifications * Board Certified Histotechnologist (HTL) by a national certification agency, such as the American Society of Clinical Pathologists (ASCP). * Have a doctoral, master's, or bachelor's degree in a chemical, physical, biological, or clinical laboratory science, or medical technology OR * Have the following education and training requirements: * At least 90 semester hours including: * 16 semester hours of chemistry including * At least 6 semester hours of inorganic chemistry * 16 semester hours of biology * 3 semester hours of math * Demonstrates potential for technical proficiency, scientific creativity, collaboration with others and independent thought. * Works on problems of moderate scope in which analysis of situation or data requires a review of identifiable factors. * Exercises judgment within defined procedures and practices to determine appropriate action.
