Job Summary

The University of Utah, Athletics Department is looking for a Live Production Specialist. The Live Production Specialist will assist the Director of Broadcast and Director of In-Venue Production with day to day and game day operations, as well as the Chief Broadcast Engineer to ensure equipment is built and allocated for all productions. This role will fill many hats and assist both ESPN digital / linear shows, while also stepping in as a secondary producer for in-venue productions. This position requires technical knowledge as well as a production background to support camera operators, graphics operators, replay operators and audio personnel. Hands-on experience with students will be a requirement to ensure the growth of a broadcast program.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate with the Director of Big Screens to upload and build out Daktronics Show Control software for events, as well as any required Xpression content.

  • Assist the Director of Broadcast to ensure any ESPN graphics and video assets are loaded for productions.

  • Serve as secondary producer for in-venue productions, which could include Volleyball and Women’s Basketball shows.

  • Be able to step in and operate any piece of equipment on gameday, including technical director, tape operator, graphics op, AP, audio engineer or camera operator.

  • Collaborate with marketing and fan experience, alongside the Director of In-Venue Production, to ensure sponsorships and promotions are executed in an appropriate and efficient manner.

  • Educate students on the in’s and out’s of live production, while showing a patience and a desire to expand their skills in the broadcast world.

  • Maintain working knowledge of and adherence to all NCAA , Big 12, and institutional rules and regulations laid out by University Compliance.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Communication, Journalism, or a related field, or equivalency (one year of education can be substituted for two years of related work experience), plus three years of directly related experience in instructional or commercial television required.

Preferences

  • Experience with Ross XPression graphics, Acuity video switchers and Daktronics Show Control.

  • Ability to run a broadcast camera, in a handheld or hard capacity.

  • Knowledgeable with replay machines, specifically Dyno, EVS or Dreamcatchers.

  • Prior experience with a power 5 institution, but similar broadcast program experience with a smaller institution is acceptable.

  • Freelance broadcast position experience is a plus.

  • Flexible schedule, with the expectation that when events that are held on nights, weekends and holidays will all be considered event days.
