State of Utah - Jobs Region Planning Manager (Non-Engineer) in OREM, Utah

The Utah Department of Transportation (UDOT) is looking for an individual with strong experience in land use or transportation planning and interpersonal skills to serve as the Region Planning Manager (Urban Planning Manager) in Region Three located in Orem,Utah. Focus areas for this position include,but are not limited to,corridor/area planning,development of the Statewide Long-Range Plan,community planning,and planning process improvements. Principle Duties As a Region Planning Manager you will:

  • Lead region corridor/area planning activities.
  • Lead and support community planning activities.
  • Assist in the development of the Statewide Long-Range Plan.
  • Act as a key interface with UDOT's MPO partners in the development of their Regional Transportation Plans.
  • Assess the feasibility of proposed plans and projects.
  • Manage projects and convey findings and recommendations to leadership and external stakeholders and partners.
  • Collaborate with applicable agencies/organizations.
  • Lead planning process improvements efforts.
  • Other tasks as assigned.

The Ideal Candidate The best candidate will have:

  • A bachelor's degree,or higher,in a planning,public administration,or a related field of study (or equivalent experience).
  • At least eight years of transportation planning or other related experience.
  • At least five years of experience leading collaborative,multi-agency planning processes and studies.
  • At least five years of project management experience.

  • Have knowledge of,and an understanding of modern transportation and urban planning principles,theories,and practices
  • Have knowledge of,and an understanding of applicable laws,rules,regulations and/or policies and procedures
  • Have strong written and verbal communications skills
  • Have knowledge of,and an understanding of contemporary principles,theories,and practices of performance management
  • The ability to assess the impacts of legislation,policies and,or audit recommendations on an agency or State service
  • Possess critical thinking skills
  • Find,collect,develop,assess and organize data and information in a clear and concise manner
  • Use logic to analyze or identify underlying principles,reasons,or facts associated with information or data
  • Provide technical assistance to users
  • Proficient in the use of modern office software suites

  • There is only one position available,but there are two job postings to allow both engineers and non-engineers to apply.   • Working Conditions - Risks found in the typical office setting,which is adequately lighted,heated and ventilated,e.g.,safe use of office equipment,avoiding trips and falls,observing fire regulations,etc.
  • Physical Requirements - Typically,the employee may sit comfortably to perform the work; however,there may be some walking; standing; bending; carrying light items; driving an automobile,etc. Special physical demands are not required to perform the work.
  • Employee may be reassigned to a different location as deemed necessary by the Region Director/Group Leader.
