State of Utah - Jobs School Nurse - RN or LPN,USDB in SALT LAKE CITY, Utah

The Utah Schools for the Deaf and the Blind (USDB) invites you to consider a challenging and diverse employment opportunity with our school.  We are looking for a highly-motivated individual to fill the position of School Nurse in Salt Lake City. This position may be filled with either a RN or LPN.

*Work Schedule: Monday through Thursday,8:30 a.m. - 3:00 p.m.,plus accompanying student(s) on the van to and from school. Hours are based on student attendance in conjunction with the school year.  There may be an opportunity to work in the summer.*  **

Principal Duties As a school nurse you will:

  • Care for a medically fragile student in class and on route to and from school.
  • May write student health care plans and amend the plan when care changes.
  • Attend 504/IEP meetings as needed.
  • Provide special and general nursing services for students enrolled at USDB.
  • Provide treatment,care and evaluation of students medical needs.
  • Assist with medical emergencies,perform first aid as needed,submit incident reports.
  • Implement and improve record systems and assure continuity of student care.
  • Conduct training for staff as necessary.
  • Ride in van with a student to and from school.

The Ideal Candidate The Ideal Candidate will possess or eligibility of:

  • Licensure as a registered nurs e (RN) or licensed practical nurse (LPN) in the state of Utah.
  • Preference will be given to candidates that have American Sign Language (ASL) skills.
  • Ability to follow written and/or oral instructions.
  • Communicate clearly and effectively.
  • Enter,transcribe,record,store or maintain information in either written or electronic form.
  • Maintain a strict level of confidentiality.
  • Successful completion of a criminal background check.

  • Retirement - Utah Retirement Systems (URS):

    • Employees who have any service credit with an employer covered by the Utah Retirement Systems prior to 7/1/2011 are in the Tier I Public Employees System.

    • Emp loyees hired on or after 7/1/2011 and who have never been in the URS retirement system have two options for retirement in the Tier II System. 

      • Tier 2 Hybrid Retirement System. Employer contributes an amount equal to 10% of your salary between both plans (pension and 401(k))

      • Tier 2 Defined Contribution Plan. Employer contributes an amount equal to 10% of your salary to a 401(k) plan only.  

    • Employer contributions to your 401(k) are vested after four years.

  • Paid Time Off:

    • Annual leave and sick leave are accrued at 4 hours per pay period each (4 hours annual,4 hours sick).

    • Annual leave amounts increase with years of service. 

    • We have 12 paid holidays.
