Navistar, Inc. Electrical Technician I in San Antonio, Texas

Position Overview

The Electrical Technician troubleshoots, diagnoses and repairs commercial trucks while supporting the production of commercial trucks that deliver superior Quality and Uptime. Electrical Technicians are part of a workgroup or team working as one cohesive group.

Regular production hours are 5:30am-4pm Monday through Thursday. Must be flexible to work overtime as needed including same day and weekends (Friday, Saturday, Sunday).

Responsibilities

Working within the Navistar Operating System (NOS), read and follow written and verbal work instructions and standard operating procedures with emphasis on safety and quality inclusive of:

  • Demonstrating overall safe work behavior; including the utilization of proper safety equipment and adhering to safety guidelines

  • Identifying and correcting potentially unsafe situations/conditions or notifying proper team members about unsafe or emergency situations and recommending corrective measures, actions or special equipment needed to improve safety

  • Following accepted housekeeping assignments and assuring work area meets acceptable housekeeping and safety standards

  • Collaborating with peers to accomplish projects or tasks and participate in group cost improvement events, discussions and meetings

  • Keeping supervisors and peers informed about accomplishments, quality/Safety issues/problems, and/or changes

  • Performing routine inspections on products, processes, materials to assure work output meets specifications of shop floor paperwork

  • Assembling and installing parts using hand tools, air tools and/or power tools

  • Fitting, bolting or otherwise connecting components and equipment according to work instructions and specifications

  • Attending to equipment and ensuring proper operation. Participate in the implementation of Total Productive Maintenance

  • Loading raw materials into production processes and removing output from machines or fixtures.

  • Troubleshooting defects and performing repairs in station or on the main line

  • Performing disassembly and adjusting or repairing connectivity of engines, transmissions, clutches, differentials, brakes, electrical systems, fuel systems, and any other motor truck related equipment.

  • Using tools of the trade including precision equipment, shop machines and power tools.

  • Troubleshooting electrical issues, interpreting basic wiring schematics

  • Utilizing Pharos system to retrieve drawings

  • Utilizing Commercial Vehicle Tracking (CVT) system to reference special features

  • Assisting in the training of peers as required

  • Other duties as assigned

Minimum Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED

  • One year of electrical/mechatronic experience

OR

  • High School Diploma or GED

  • Technical Degree or Certification in Electrical or Mechatronics

Additional Requirements

  • Qualified candidates, excluding current Navistar employees, must be legally authorized on an unrestricted basis (US Citizen, Legal Permanent Resident, Refugee or Asylee) to be employed in the United States.   • Physical Requirements (Ability to do the following up to 10 hours per shift):

  • Walk, stand, sit, bend, twist/turn, kneel, squat, crawl

  • Climb using both legs and arms

  • Head/neck movement

  • Reach outward or above the shoulder

  • Drive or operate equipment such as lifts and/or motor vehicles

  • Lift, carry, push, or pull 15-45 pounds

  • Repetitive use of hands and fingers

  • Use of vibrating tools

  • Depth perceptions required

  • Ability to distinguish basic colors and shades of color

  • Exposure to constant and intermittent noise, fumes, smoke and gases, solvents, paint, grease and oils, radiant energy, and slippery surfaces

  • May be required to work on units outdoors

Desired Skills

  • Proficient knowledge of hand tools, ability to disassemble and reassemble using proper equipment.

  • Knowledge of electronic/electrical diagnostic tools to use for troubleshooting faults and connections

  • Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics

  • Knowledge of mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic components

  • Prior automotive or truck mechanic experience

  • Ability to learn in a fast-paced environment

  • Flexibility to work any shift and overtime as needed

  • ASE Certifications preferred

  • Dealership/repair shop experience, focus on automotive electrical repair
