Mid Level Substation Design Engineer

Job Summary

POWER Engineers is currently seeking an Electrical Engineer in the San Antonio, TX area to work as a Substation Design Engineer in the Power Delivery Substation Department of our San Antonio, TX office. Flexibility is available for a hybrid work environment (employee will need to live within driving distance of the office).

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Perform and direct others in the detailed design of medium to extra high voltage utility substations including, but not limited to:

  • One-line diagrams

  • Schematics

  • Wiring diagrams

  • SCADA

  • Communications

  • Station physical layouts

  • Sections/Elevations

  • Cable and conduit plans and details

  • Ground grid design and details

  • Foundation plans and details

  • Structural plans and details

  • Control enclosure design and details

  • Lightning protection plans

  • Yard lighting plans

  • Construction cost estimates and contracts

  • Bill of Materials

  • Project scheduling and coordination

  • Site visits

  • Support QA/QC for deliverables to clients.

  • Occasional travel will be required.

Required Education/Experience

  • Ability to function as a Mid Level Substation Design Engineer with the San Antonio location of our Substation Business Unit.

  • BSEE (BS Electrical Engineering) or BSEET (BS Electrical Engineering Technology) degree, from an accredited university preferably with a power option.

  • Experience in 15kV through 500kV substation design and IEEE/ANSI standards.

  • Experience in managing small project teams.

  • Experience filling the role of substation design engineer for several projects occurring concurrently.

  • Engineer in Training (EIT) registration.

  • The candidate must have strong command of the English language with good written and oral communication skills in order to work effectively with internal team members and external client personnel.

  • Candidates must be legally authorized to work permanently in the U.S. without the need for work sponsorship.

Desired Education/Experience

  • Five (5) or more years experience in utility substation design as outlined above.

  • Professional Engineering license (PE) strongly preferred, or ability to sit for the exam within 6 months.

  • Managerial and leadership skills a plus.
