We currently have an exciting full time career opportunity available to join the HKNC team as a Full time Rehabilitation Instructor. Responsible for evaluating and providing training in, skills of independent living with consumers to foster a more independent and productive lifestyle in the community.

*This position requires travel from the Los Angeles area up to Bakersfield, CA.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

Perform independent living skills assessment to determine realistic short and long-term goals.

  • Ensures services provided to consumers are person-centered and meet the consumers’ needs:

  • Identify the consumer’s training priorities

  • Actively collaborate with team (including consumer) to design training activities, implement individualized program and evaluate progress through debriefing and further dialogue to identify further learning opportunities.

  • Communicates to all team members the consumer’s training priorities/ short- and long-term goals.

  • Ensures the consumer’s involvement in decision making process with team throughout evaluation and training

  • Actively participates in Community of Practice (COP) of choice in order to support learning of peers, contribute articles, experiences, and challenges.

  • Plans lessons and provides skills training in the above areas based upon the findings of the assessment using specific methods and adaptations required to teach DeafBlind persons.

  • Participates in employment planning meetings/transition meetings for discussion of information pertaining to consumer development, evaluation, training progress, termination, and transition to place of residence. Cooperates in team effort to enable the consumer to meet his/her individual goals.

  • Documents consumer performance during assessment and training sessions to monitor progress; identifies problems and constraints; develops strategies and remedies; and provides formal reports to funding sources.

  • Performs program and management activities as needed for Implementation of services in the Independent Living area.

  • Assumes maintenance and replacement responsibility for Independent Living equipment for the CSP team.

  • Works on activities related to Independent Living skills development. This will include gathering information, investigating trends, preparing resource material, and participating in team and professional development activities.

  • Provides information and resources to professionals and other interested parties. This will include in-service training, seminars, and workshops (preparation and presentation), letter and phone consultation, family support and preparation of videotapes and other materials.

  • Performs/participates in activities that promote professional development: HKNC in-service training, workshops, conferences, agencies, and professional reading.

  • Participates in classes and workshops (some agency provided) to gain proficiency in sign language, Braille, and other specialized areas.

  • Performs related duties, when necessary, at the discretion of the CA CSP Coordinator.

REQUIRED EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

Bachelor’s degree required. Preferred Master's Degree in Rehabilitation Teaching, or Special Education

Knowledge of Braille and sign language. Fluency in American Sign Language is preferred or candidate must become proficient within two years of employment.
