About Real Estate Division (RED) 

The Real Estate Division is comprised of a team of over 220 full time staff delivering professional real estate services to a variety of clients. The Division is comprised of four main subparts:  Administration/Building Management, Transactions, Engineering, and Custodial , and acts as a real estate consultant to Departments, the Mayor, and the Board of Supervisors. 

We have responsibility for: Real Property Transactions: Acquisition and leases of real property required for City purposes (including searches, negotiations and drafting of real property agreement); Sale of surplus real property owned by the City; ; Operations at the Alemany Farmers' and Flea Markets (100 Alemany); Providing Custodial and Engineering services for various City departments at over 60 different locations; Full service property management services to over 5,000,000 square feet of city-owned offices, including City Hall, 1 South Van Ness Avenue, 25 Van Ness, 49 South Van Ness, Public Safety Building (San Francisco Police Headquarters), Office of Chief Medical Examiner, and the Hall of Justice.

Appointment Type: Temporary Exempt (TEX), this is an as-needed position that is limited to 1,040 hours per fiscal year. This position is excluded by the Charter from the competitive Civil Service examination process and shall serve at the discretion of the Appointing Officer.

POSITION DESCRIPTION:

This position will assist the Alemany Farmers’ Market (“Market”) manager and other Market staff as an-needed for the Alemany Farmers/Flea Market at 100 Alemany. This four-acre property hosts over 200 vendors each weekend, rain or shine, selling certified produce on Saturdays and permitted goods on Sundays.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • The position works with the Market manager to address concerns of patrons of the market;

  • Ensures safe operations of market which enjoys attendance from thousands of San Franciscans and visitors from around the world each weekend;

  • Coordinates with the SFPD to address incidents during market operations and to ensure illegal dumping and uses during off-hours are addressed;

  • Ensures accurate accounting of stall fee revenue during operation days; 

  • Ensures vendors possess required certification from agricultural commissioner of county of origin of produce;

  • Prepare weekly cash deposits for transfer to Sheriff staff;

  • Manage use of EBT tokens by customers, and reimbursement of token use to vendors;

  • Manage telephone stall reservations; Manage filing systems; Prepare required state reports, grant reports as required.

  • Ensure safe, pleasant, and productive market operations.

Experience:

One (1) year of clerical experience including preparing and maintaining a variety of records and/or documents, filing, use of office equipment, public contact and processing of incoming and outgoing mail.

Substitution:

Any one of the following may substitute for six (6) months of the required experience:

Completion of a clerical training program (240 hours); OR

15 semester units (or equivalent quarter units) of coursework from an accredited college or university; OR

Completion of an approved City and County of San Francisco Clerical Administrative training program (as designated on the job announcement)

Special Conditions

  • Position requires ability to walk a 4+acre public venue throughout stated market hours.

  • Due to location and early morning weekend hours, position requires a reliable personal means of transportation.

  • High customer volume requires expertise in communications and customer service.

  • Must have computer knowledge of Word and Excel.

Compensation: $30.0125 to $36.4750 hourly
