Intel Senior Payroll Manager, Altera in San Jose, California

Job Description

Altera empowers customers to unlock the full potential of data through cutting-edge programmable platforms in the FPGA industry, which serves a broad array of markets, including the data center, communications, industrial, automotive, aerospace and defense sectors.

In Q4 2023, Intel announced Altera will be reported as a separate business unit beginning on January 1, 2024 with ongoing support from Intel. This position is associated to that standalone business strategy and is expected to fully transition to a standalone company at some time in the future.

We are looking for a Senior Payroll Manager to lead our payroll team and ensure the accuracy and timeliness of our payroll processes. You will be responsible for overseeing the end-to-end payroll process, developing and implementing payroll policies and procedures, ensuring compliance with tax and labor laws, and driving strategic initiatives to optimize payroll performance and user experience. You will also mentor and coach the payroll team, develop their capabilities, and ensure alignment with Altera's values and goals.

Key responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Manage the payroll team for end-to-end processing of payroll process as well as off-cycle payments to ensure all payroll transactions are delivered timely and accurately.

  • Lead the development and implementation of organizational policies and processes for payroll related initiatives.

  • Ensure accurate and timely processing of payroll updates including new hires, terminations, and changes to pay rates.

  • Oversee the integrity of all payroll data into the HRIS and Payroll systems.

  • Act as a subject matter expert on payroll systems, regulations, benefits changes, and labor laws impacting the payroll process and ensure compliance on federal, state and local updates.

  • Ensure payroll tax filings are timely and accurately prepared on a daily, monthly, and quarterly basis in compliance with local income tax laws.

  • Drive development of strategic planning and vision-to-action processes, analyze data, and Critical Success indicators (CSI's) to identify optimization opportunities and program management of cross-organization strategic initiatives.

  • Champion Lean, Business Process Management (BPM), development, and deployment of cost competitive solutions to maintain or improve performance and user experience.

  • Mentor a global payroll team through effective coaching, development and training through interactive dialog.

  • Responsible for enabling teams to execute through clear goal setting, facilitating work, maintaining accountability, applying differentiated performance management, and driving team results.

  • Drive results by inspiring people, role modeling Altera values, developing the capabilities of others, and ensuring a productive work environment.

  • Manage leaves of absence and workers compensation process.

  • Responsible for managing and overseeing reporting requirements for EEO, California pay reporting and any global reporting.

  • Manage Payroll Accounting for all relevant Payroll Journal Entries, as well as prepare month/quarter/year end reconciliations. Responsible for preparing schedules and providing documentation for the semi-annual and annual financial audits.

Qualifications

You must possess the below minimum qualifications to be initially considered for this position. Preferred qualifications are in addition to the minimum requirements and are considered a plus factor in identifying top candidates.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or related field, or 10 +years of payroll experience in lieu of degree

  • Minimum of 10 years of Global payroll experience, including at least 5 years of payroll management experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) preferred.

  • Strong knowledge of payroll systems, regulations, benefits changes, and labor laws impacting the payroll process.

  • Experience with HRIS and Payroll systems, preferably Workday.

  • Experience with payroll tax fillings and compliance in multiple states and countries.

  • Experience with leading and managing payroll projects and initiatives.

  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.

  • Excellent communication, collaboration, and interpersonal skills.

  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, dynamic, and changing environment.

  • Ability to lead, motivate, and develop a diverse and high-performing team.

  • Ability to drive results and deliver on commitments.

  • Ability to role model Altera values and culture.

Annual Salary Range for jobs which could be performed in US, California: $131,841.00-$210,951.00

*Salary range dependent on a number of factors including location and experience
