Job Description
Reporting to the Associate Director of Financial Aid and Scholarships, the Financial Aid Program Specialist is responsible for awarding financial aid and/or scholarships, managing specific financial aid or scholarship programs (including writing and maintaining procedures), exercising professional judgment relative to special circumstances, and providing financial education to students. In addition, this position will assist with managing assigned scholarship programs with special emphasis on donor compliance.
Job Duties
The Program Specialist will work to ensure the effective management of federal, state and institutional financial aid and scholarship programs, determine student eligibility by reviewing exception lists, award students according to university packaging parameters, and exercise professional judgment regarding financial and other documents related to mitigating circumstances. This position is also tasked with keeping abreast of all pertinent federal and state financial aid regulations and making recommendations to ensure effective, efficient, and compliant team operations. In addition, ensure that all student applicants are treated fairly and equitably in the scholarship awarding process.
The Program Specialist will assist with the awarding and managing of a variety of scholarship programs. Specifically, this position will manage the Hector and Gloria Lopez Scholarship and is responsible for selecting the scholars and assuring all financial matters are attended to in a timely manner (e.g., processing all award requests for allowable expenses, recalculating aid packages, providing financial coaching to students, etc.). This position serves as the primary liaison between our office and the Hector and Gloria Lopez Foundation and requires excellent communication and writing skills. Additionally, this position is responsible for coordinating administrative activities and processing all scholarship awarding requests to ensure that documentation and information flow in a systematic and timely fashion within the financial aid and scholarship management systems.
Additional Information to Applicants
This is a full-time Project Staff position with benefits approved for only 4 years.
Occasional overnight travel, and work beyond normal 8-5 business hours may be required.
Flexible schedules available, including part-time remote or four-day work weeks.
