Montana Department of Transportation is recruiting a Maintenance Technician in the Scobey Section. This position performs a variety of work as a laborer, lead worker, equipment operator and truck driver for highway maintenance activities. The Maintenance Technician operates a variety of equipment, including trucks, to perform regular maintenance activities such as ditch cleaning, patching, overlays, fence repairs, lawn mowing and material or equipment transportation. In winter, loads sanding material and does snow removal and sanding. Responsible for overall functional operation of machines including preoperational checking, scheduled servicing, and adding fluids, and changing pins, cutting edges, etc. Performs related work as required. Applicants with a Class B license or a learner's permit and experience are encouraged to apply. Placement levels: Maintenance Technician I ($27.59) * Requires one (1) year experience driving heavy truck or operating construction equipment. Maintenance Technician II ($28.09) * Requires two (2) years of documented experience from another city, county, or other state highway road department where you were employed for the purpose of road maintenance. Maintenance Technician III ($28.59) * Requires three (3) or more years of documented experience from another city, county, or other state highway road department where you were employed for the purpose of road maintenance. City, county, or other state highway road department experience where employed for the purpose of road maintenance will be considered for salary placement. Additional Information * Successful applicant must live or relocate within 45 road miles of the assigned maintenance section and must have a telephone or be reasonably accessible to the section headquarters. Pay and placement in the career ladder is based on MDT time in grade, classroom training, practical experience, and successful completion of the MDT Maintenance Academy.
