Atec, Inc. Shipping and Receiving Lead in Sealy, Texas

Vital Link Inc.'s core business is in the fabrication, maintenance, and installation of jet engine test facilities and sound suppression systems. This requires that the corporation support both field and plant operations, while operating both in a commercial and military environment on a worldwide basis. The Clerk, Shipping & Receiving in general shall be primarily responsible for performing data entry and record keeping transactions for shipping and receiving parts, materials, and supplies, in accordance with written procedures. A particular employee may be designated as having primary responsibility for shipping or receiving, but shall be required to perform either function as directed by the Shipping & Receiving Manager.

Particular Duties:

  1. Ensure that all goods and materials shipped, received or transferred from inventory, are properly charged to the correct work orders in the Global Shop accounting system, and Bills of Material are updated for tracking purposes. File and record all paperwork in either hardcopy or electronic format as required. This position includes primary responsibility to perform these administrative and clerical functions in support of the Shipping & Receiving Manager, Lead, and Technicians.

  2. Mark, label and annotate goods as required to support tracking, identification and traceability.

  3. Coordinate with VLI Quality Control personnel to ensure that received goods have been inspected prior to release to production or inventory, and that associated documentation in electronic or hardcopy is tracked and filed in accordance with company procedures and written instructions.

  4. Ship and receive goods and materials in accordance with company procedures, written instructions and purchase order terms, under the direction of the Manager or Lead personnel. Ensure that received goods have been unloaded, staged and identified in the correct Receiving or Inventory zone.

  5. Perform all other Shipping and Receiving duties assigned by the Manager or Lead. In addition to the above this includes but is not limited to loading, unloading, packaging and crating, material handling and general Laborer duties for the Department.

  6. Under the direction of the Shipping and Receiving Manager prepare Bills of Lading, Packing Lists, Bills of Material, and other documentation for shipping goods.

  7. Use and maintain safety equipment as required.

  8. Ensure that all problems with equipment and machinery are promptly reported to the Manager or Lead personnel for corrective action. Halt production on equipment and machinery if they cannot be safely operated.

  9. Responsible to ensure that all supplies, equipment, and gear, and the shipping & receiving work area in general, are kept in a neat and orderly manner.

Secondary Functions: None

Training: Must be trained in the proper use of material handling equipment such as forklifts and overhead cranes. Must know and follow requirements for the proper storage and allocation of supplies and material. Must be trained to company safety requirements.

Education: None required, High school diploma or GED preferred

Experience: Shipping and receiving, inventory control or material handling experience is required.

Licenses/Certification: Certified forklift operator is required.

Skills, Knowledge and Abilities: Must be able to perform medium to heavy manual labor. Must have operational familiarity with Microsoft Office products including Outlook, Teams, Word and Excel. Should have the ability to read, interpret and implement shipping, receiving, inventory, purchasing, and quality control documentation, written instructions and procedures. Must have good communication and interpersonal skills to interface with management, other department personnel, and other departments. Must be detail oriented and able to work at a fast pace.

Physical: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by the employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

Body Positions: Standing, sitting, stooping, crouching, and bending. Requires significant time working at a computer work station.

Body Movements: The employee must have a full range of body movements including the use of hands to fingers, handle or feel objects, climbing, bending, reaching, and walking.

Body Senses: Must have command of sight, hearing, and touch. Must hear and speak the English language well enough to communicate all to coworkers, supervisors, and managers.

Strength: Should be able to properly lift moderate and heavy steel parts, equipment, and supplies on a routine basis.

Working Conditions: This position requires significant work in an office environment to perform data entry, research, communicating, filing and related administrative work. This position also requires work outdoors and in an open non-climate controlled shop in all types of weather. When performing the latter functions this position is exposed occasionally to flying sparks, metal chips, shavings, and potentially heavy dust which requires the use of safety glasses, face mask, and protective clothing. The noise level in the work environment is often quite high, which may often require hearing protection. Employee may work at elevated positions using ladders and manlifts, requiring use of safety harnesses and tie offs as required.

Usually eight (8) to ten (10) hour workdays four (4) or (5) days per week with occasional Saturday and Sunday work, as well as additional early and/or late workdays to accommodate special business circumstances.
