POSITION PURPOSE: Reporting to the Director of Information and Learning Technologies, the Associate Director of Technology Support is responsible for oversight and management of systems, staff, and end-user technical support for clients affiliated with the College of Education. The person in this position will play a strategic role in helping the people at the College to take advantage of existing and new technologies in support of their mission, always aligned with UW’s policies and best practices. This position does not provide relocation support.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Manage and provide daily technical support to staff, faculty, and students in a diverse computing environment that includes platforms running Windows, macOS, iOS, and Linux.

  • Supervise and manage the college help desk team responsible for providing direct support to faculty, staff and students.

  • Implement technology solutions so that faculty, staff and students may have access to technology tools and data in a way that best supports their teaching, research and administrative and community service.

  • Escalate unresolved technology issues to appropriate support teams (UW-IT staff and/or vendors) to promptly resolve hardware and software issues.

  • Manage purchasing of technology equipment and software for the College. This includes institutional inventory management for UW and state and insurance of equipment. Manage equipment deployment.

  • Develop and maintain the college’s equipment inventory and replacement calendar. Oversees the surplusage of equipment.

  • Oversee the maintenance and support of technology in college classrooms. Including review and service of equipment. Provide support, documentation and training.

  • Support and maintain cloud-based tools used for teaching, research and administrative tasks.

  • Provide advising and support for technology in support of faculty research.

  • Along with the Director, serve as a liaison and project manager for technology-related projects with center staff and outside vendors/contractors.

  • Write and maintain thorough documentation of all programs and procedures.

  • Write and maintain end-user documentation and tutorials. Contribute to ticketing system knowledge base.

  • Maintain a data security plan for the technology center.

  • Work with the department team to develop and maintain Teams/SharePoint sites that support the college's needs and mission.

  • Remain current with developments in IT in a higher education environment by collaborating with peers in other units and engaging in regular professional development.

  • Other duties as assigned MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

  • Bachelor's Degree in a Computer-related field of study, to include four years of experience managing the support of end-user systems, including MS Windows, MacOS, MS Office software, and various email clients and two years of management experience Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license/certification/registration. ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Experience installing, configuring, and troubleshooting various hardware, including desktop computers, laptops, tablets, and phones.

  • Experience supporting web and cloud-based tools like Office 365, SharePoint, Teams, and Google Apps.

  • Proven communication capacity and excellent service in a fast-paced and varied environment. Demonstrated strong organizational skills and writing skills.

  • Demonstrated ability to work accurately with strong attention to detail.

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, including ability to clearly explain technology to a non-technical audience

  • Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs. and work in tight spaces. DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Experience with UW technology infrastructure and administrative systems.

  • Experience with FreshService or FreshDesk as a customer service ticketing system

  • Experience creating, designing, and managing SharePoint sites.

  • Experience working with other enterprise systems (Slate, CommunityForce, Qualtrics, etc)

  • Basic web technology. Familiarity with HTML, CSS, SQL, JavaScript, etc

  • Familiarity with accessibility standards (WCAG 2.1)

  • Basic understanding of media editing tools (Photoshop, Video Editing tools, etc)

  • Experience in policy and procedure implementation and enforcement.
