Expeditors Database Administrator – Accounting and Data Governance in Seattle, Washington

As a Database Administrator, you will be joining a collaborative team that supports the development activities of the Accounting and Data Governance group in IS. You will be focusing on building reliable, effective database environments for the business applications that the team develops for our global logistics network. This includes building and maintaining the database structures the applications require. Your expertise will be an important part of the application database design process. Ensuring database performance, database availability, and the ability to recover from failures is paramount.

You will also be joining the corporate DBA team that supports our production databases. As a member of the DBA team, you will be working together to ensure that production databases support our business applications around the world. You will take part in some of the following tasks: managing resources to keep applications running in production at an optimal level, handling backup and recovery operations, ensuring the security of our DBMS systems, and helping to verify that access to data is compliant with US and other countries’ laws and regulations. This is an opportunity for you to be on a high-performing team that serves as the center-point for consistent, real-time data for our systems. 

This position is on-site and will reside in the greater Seattle, WA area at one of the following locations depending on availability. Candidates must be local or willing to relocate. Relocation assistance is not offered for this position.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • BS or BA in Computer Science or related field; or comparable work experience

  • Unix DBA experience

  • Experience working with relational database management systems (DB2 and PostgreSQL) and understand their core concepts.

  • Proficient with SQL

  • Experience working in a Unix/Linux environment.

  • Desire to work as part of the business application development lifecycle.

  • Experience working on a collaborative team.

  • Customer service mindset

  • Excellent communication skills

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Strong knowledge of DB2 or PostgreSQL DBMS

  • Scripting experience with Bourne shell, KornShell, Bash, Python, and/or Perl

  • Experience with database clustering technologies

  • Familiar with backup and recovery operations

  • Fundamentals of database security and compliance

Expected base salary:  $85,000 to $120,000
