Amazon Senior Manager, Kuiper Accounting PMO in Seattle, Washington

It’s a new Day 1 for Kuiper and we are looking for a Senior Manager Program Management to join the Kuiper Accounting team supporting this emerging business.

Project Kuiper is Amazon’s long-term initiative to design, launch, and maintain a constellation of low earth orbit satellites to provide low-latency, high-speed broadband connectivity to unserved and underserved communities around the world. This area is a more start-up-type environment, necessitating a strong balance of big picture views against detailed execution to leverage accounting solutions and processes at scale in an ambiguous landscape.

The Senior Manager Program Management will manage accounting programs and teams supporting Kuiper and will work closely with business, finance, legal, tax, accounting, and various technical teams to drive the end-to-end project life cycle. In this role, the candidate will be part of a team that collaborates to deliver world class solutions that are highly scalable and flexible. You will directly own complex Kuiper accounting workstreams and navigate through a large amount of ambiguity and drive consensus between cross-functional stakeholder groups.

The Senior Manager Program Management will lead significant Kuiper accounting programs by engaging with accounting teams, business leaders and technology teams and by developing a deep understanding of Kuiper and accounting financial and business processes. This role will define strategies and specifications of the financial systems for accounting, and identify/prioritize automation and transformation of accounting processes. This specific role will lead visibility into cross-organizational Kuiper Accounting workstreams and also identify and own managing accounting risks and dependencies, effectively leading these across internal accounting teams and business/technical teams, as necessary. This leader will collaborate across the accounting organization by first defining the pain points, the measures of success, the process changes, and the system capabilities that are needed to support the process. With Kuiper being a highly complex and large-scale initiative, this role will provide a key escalation point for many teams.

Successful candidates will have deep experience with both soft skill execution and domain expertise. Creative problem solving, strength in influencing and driving alignment, the ability to connect emerging dots in new ways, and highly effective communication and stakeholder management skills will be essential. Additionally, candidates will also need strong Accounting and Program Management expertise, with experience in process design, requirements management, launch readiness activities (including change management, testing, organizational readiness), and a strong track record for successfully managing highly complex programs through launch.

Key job responsibilities

The Senior Manager, Program Management will be responsible for:

  1. Managing team and complex related global accounting requirements, while reviewing system requirements and design, by working closely with Kuiper business and technical engineering teams, entity expansions teams, Kuiper accounting teams, regional-international accounting teams, legal, tax and other finance functions.

  2. Owning and developing communication plans and health assessments for global Kuiper accounting teams that includes regular reviews with leadership.

  3. Overseeing senior level program management responsibilities to deliver Kuiper accounting at scale, including delivering automation consistent with stretch goals, reduction of manual accounting processes, while influencing teams to limit the proliferation of redundant systems.

  4. Leading across the global accounting organization to maintain alignment, drive organizational readiness and implementation of best practices (e.g., formalizing roles, responsibilities, and hand-offs, consistent onboarding, etc.).

  5. Partnering with a diverse community of global stakeholders to ensure roadmaps are aligned, end-to-end solutioning is fit-for-purpose, decisions and escalations led are managed efficiently with speed, and risks and dependencies are managed appropriately.

  6. Broadly oversees change management and the quality delivery of team requirements and delivering processes to achieve a consistent high standard solution to business/technical and accounting teams.

  7. Delivering program/ project management tools, methodologies and techniques for all phases of the program/ project life-cycle.

  8. Collaborating with leaders and creating program structures to track process and system-level goals, procedure development and cross-functional dependencies.

About the team

Export Control Requirement: Due to applicable export control laws and regulations, candidates must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (i.e., current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum.

Basic Qualifications

  • 7+ years of finance or a related analytical field experience

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting or related field

  • 7+ years of program or project experience - owning program strategy, end to end delivery, and communicating results to senior leadership

  • 7+ years of driving process improvements experience

Preferred Qualifications

  • CPA

  • Knowledge of internal control framework (specifically COSO)

  • Knowledge of GAAP research tools and the FASB codification

  • Experience in accounting management in Big Four with Fortune 500 clients

  • Experience in operational accounting with one or more Fortune 500 companies

  • CMA or Master's degree

  • PMP

  • Demonstrated ability to succeed in cross-functional teams through influence versus direct management

  • Demonstrated ability to work quickly and accurately in an ambiguous environment

  • Experience supporting business and finance customers to set and effectively manage expectations, project deliverables, and drive resolution when conflicts or issues arise

  • Experience with project management with broad scope in a global organization

  • Strong interpersonal written and oral communication skills

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $137,700/year in our lowest geographic market up to $227,700/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
