The Role

This role is responsible for collaborating with senior management and direct reports to develop and execute on a national strategic plan for the Pathology business which out-performs the overall market growth in this segment.Directly responsible for the budgeted revenue and operations of the Pathology business. Plans and directs operations, administrative, and finance activities for Pathology services, grounded in customer-centricity, quality, safety and process efficiency.Builds and maintains an environment that encourages employee development and retention. The successful candidate is a change agent, forward thinker and results-oriented Operations Leader with demonstrated success designing and executing strategies that yield measurable business results.


Lab Operations:

  • Inspire and lead the Pathology Operations organization for the core business to achieve profitable growth
  • Drive productivity, cost performance, operations excellence and ensure efficient and successful laboratory operations.
  • Ensure quality meets and exceeds standards for excellent patient care and strive to improve where possible.
  • Develop and implement strategy for increasing productivity and reducing costs.
  • Drive continuous improvement through QMS tools.
  • Develop Customer informed KPI dashboard for benchmarking and drive continuous improvement toward excellence.
  • Manage operations assets and staffing.

Coordination of Key Stakeholders:

  • Partner with Regional Business Lines, Corporate Functions, Pathology Franchise, CMO and Commercial Leaders to develop Pathology Operations strategies to meet goals and objectives
  • Contribute as a member of the Pathology Leadership team to promote communication and cooperation among the pathology staff
  • Ensure Pathology has the appropriate committees and participation in place (LIS Users Group, Best Practices, Comprehensive Reporting, Scanning) in an effort to standardize and improve operations within the division.

Growth and Retention:

  • Work with the Managed Care Team to analyze impact of contracts, develop multi-level relationships with managed care company personnel and participate in negotiation process as requested.
  • Partner with Sales on client business as requested.
  • Play a leadership role in strategic growth initiatives (M&A, RFPs).
  • Thought and vision leader for the future of pathology.

Lab Leadership

  • Evaluate the performance of the management staff and provide positive and constructive feedback and ensure effective communication with employees.
  • Manage the development leadership process.
  • Lead the operation team's succession planning and applicable actions and Individual Development Plans.
  • Ensure effective and continuous communication up and down within the pathology business.
  • Retain and develop talent.
  • Build an inspiring culture.

Supervision Exercised

  • 6 Direct Reports including Executive Director of Shared Services and 4 Operations Directors/Sr. Directors
  • 1300-1500 Indirect reports


Education:

  • Required: BS or BA from an accredited
  • Preferred: MBA or MS

Work Experience:

  • Required: 15-20 years of progressive senior leadership experience managing large complex operations.
  • Preferred: Pathology Operations experience preferred.

  • Proven operations and process leadership experience across multiple functional areas; Ability to lead in a matrix structure to achieve business goals; demonstrated financial acumen and experiencedeveloping and operating a capital budget
