Applewood Centers Math and Science Teacher - Reserve School in Shaker Heights, Ohio
Applewood Centers is a private, nonprofit agency providing mental health services, social services and education to children, adolescents and families living in Cuyahoga and Lorain counties. Dedicated to addressing a variety of behavioral, emotional and learning problems, we provide a continuum of care from outpatient counseling to residential treatment.
Position Summary:
We are currently hiring a High School Math and Science Teacher to join our team at the Reserve School. The Math and Science Teacher will plan and teach high school math and science courses in a special education setting. They will also work as a part of an inter-disciplinary team which includes Intervention Specialists, Teacher Aides, Social Workers and Counselors, Educational Leadership and others.
Responsibilities Include:
Plan and teach assigned classes as assigned by Principal.
Advise, mentor, guide assigned students as directed by Principal.
Communicate with and provide parents/guardians, mental health professionals, and home school districts with consistent updates regarding students’ progress or issues that arise.
Extends and supports therapeutic ideals and goals of the assigned School.
Work with individual students to promote creative expression and coping skills development.
Work closely with the educational team regarding planning, decisions and execution of individual education plans.
Maintain an orderly, safe and inviting classroom space which is sensitive to race, culture, development, and self-identification of students.
Qualifications:
Bachelor's Degree in Education or related field.
Valid Ohio Teaching Certificate or Non-Tax license with expertise in assigned area.
A valid driver's license with approved driving record(less than 6 points), personal transportation and insurance, if required to drive on behalf of the agency.
