JOB SUMMARY

Highly visible, hands-on position responsible for assisting clinicians with implementation of Electronic Health Records (EHR) systems, including advice and assistance associated with vendor product delivery as it pertains to hardware and software setup and system configuration for clinicians. Provides systems workflow advice during the implementation processes and provides re-design ideas, builds clinician workflows and educates the end users. Ensures that the technology is being used appropriately, established technical and quality standards are followed, solutions are cost effective and the information needs of the informatics customers are met. Provides training for the clinical staff for existing and new applications. Consults with other staff from SMH departments. Uses clinical knowledge, informatics knowledge, practice experience and critical thinking to facilitate multidiscipline approach to promote highly functioning evidenced based care through the various EHR applications within SMH.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

  • Facilitates clinical informatics related to meetings and brings working groups to consensus.

  • Demonstrates an ability to be flexible, organized and function well under stressful situations.

  • Develops and maintains standard documentation of system design and workflow processes.

  • Participates in collaborative projects such as EMR package review and implementation, provides support for system activations and upgrades involving 24/7 coverage.

  • Participates in departmental on-call support.

  • Provides expertise, influences and works collaboratively with clinicians, clinical departments and improvement teams in the planning, design, development, training, implementation, communication, maintenance and evaluation of new or existing functionality relate to clinical information systems, that utilizes evidence-based practices and are metric driven and optimized.

  • Utilizes standardized information services tools, such as a ticketing system, to place, monitor and facilitate closure of system tickets identifying breaks, optimization requests or related items, adhering to established service level commitments.

  • Understands and able to effectively communicate data integration requirements to clinical providers.

  • Acts as a change agent to develop new processes enhance existing workflows, and train clinical and medical staff in new functionality or processes.

  • Works closely with vendor(s) collaborates supplying certified EMR technology to Sheridan Memorial Hospital in accordance with organizational needs as well as internal clinical system analysts. Provides direct contact with vendor(s) to ensure customer needs are met. Participate in meetings, telephone conferences, industry conferences as deemed necessary

  • Analyzes and interpret patient, clinical and/or IT data to improve patient care. Utilizes system data to enhance EHR Utilization.

  • Aware of vendor implementation mythologies and timelines and be able to plan accordingly for successful projects implementations.

  • Working knowledge of human factors, clinical informatics and clinical transformation principles and concepts in order to maintain/improve effective communication within SMH.

  • Keeps abreast of relevant legislation, rules, regulations, tools, procedures, technical specifications and developments in the field of informatics best practice standards.

  • Reads current literature relevant to informatics, collaborates with colleagues and participates in professional organizations and/or conferences (as travel approved by supervisor) in order to be aware of developments and advances in informatics.

  • Participates in collaborative projects such as EHR package review/implementation. Manage priorities within the projects and timelines.

  • Maintains customer relations during courses of projects in order to attain product acceptance and adaptation.

  • Plans, coordinates and monitors development, or educational needs for nursing/clinical staff, implementation, evaluation and maintenance of assigned projects.

  • Develops improvement tools in collaboration with nursing and other informatics team members.

  • Maintains documentation in electronic format within Spiceworks (or a similar product) on projects planned, being worked on and completed.

  • Familiarity and gains knowledge of the primary EHR vendor products, and assist in building trusted relationships with vendors. Includes issue tracking tools and ability to communicate effectively issue management and resolutions.

  • Participates in the development of end-user communications, curriculum, training plans and tools.

  • Conducts and supports end-users training using formats appropriate to target audience.

  • Provides training to physicians/APC on the best practices for typical EHR system configuration of the EMR and other applications.

  • Assists with training program through regular written communication updates, tip sheets and formal and informal training.

  • Independently identifies learning needs, styles and barriers of individuals requiring additional assistance with changes in workflow and initiates appropriate methods of teaching while providing a safe learning environment

  • Provides technical advice to decision makers and end users that leads to successful outcome from pre-implementation, upgrade and maintenance involved in product/project selection, procurement, use and maintenance. Provides technical expertise to clinicians that supplements vendor product selection based on assessment of needs.

  • Makes presentations to clinical staff regarding projects and provides ongoing support to clinical staff through all phases of informatics projects.

    POSITION QUALIFICATIONS Education / Experience / License and Certifications

  • Current Wyoming Registered Nurse Licensure without restrictions, required.

  • Minimum two years’ acute care nursing experience, required.

  • Informatics Certification, i.e., ANCC-Nursing Informatics, CPHIMS, or CAHIMS, preferred.

  • BLS certification, preferred.

  • Intermediate proficiency with MS Office suite, including Access, Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook.

  • Demonstrates proficient in effectively communicating data integration requirements to nursing and other clinical providers.

Specific demands not listed: Possible exposure to blood and or body fluids / infectious disease / hazardous waste requiring the use of Personal Protective Equipment. Exposure to odorous chemicals / specimens and Latex products.
