Description
Salary: $20.26 per hour
SUMMARY:Operates specialized equipment and trucks. Assists with maintenance of building and grounds as assigned. Assists in all maintenance and/or construction operations. Does related work as assigned under direct and indirect supervision. Must be available on an emergency basis or stand-by, subject to 24 hour on-call status.
NOTE:This position is part of the Sewers Work Group, and part of the budgeted number of full-time employees allocated for Sewers, but is assigned to the Streets Work Group, working under their supervision. Employees in the position may bid on openings within the Streets Work Group if there is an open full-time position available due to an employee leaving the department (which would prompt a City-wide posting). Employees in this position, however, are not allowed to bid if the job posting is for a promotion within the Streets Work Group because there is no open position to fill. This position does have the same bidding rights within the Sewers Work Group as any other Sewer Work Group employee.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:This list represents the types of duties required by the position.
- Sweeping of City streets and other areas as assigned.
- Perform street maintenance; repair of street surface which includes manual labor for other job-related programs, including but not limited to, paving, paving prep, roto-mill and working with hot and cold asphalt and crackseal materials.
- Haul leaves, branches, dirt, debris and various other materials.
- Operate and drive single and tandem axle dump truck, with or without snowplow and salt spreader attachment, pulling various trailers and attachments.
- Perform snow removal operations during the winter.
- Operate backhoe, front end loader, road patcher, trucks, compressor with air hammer and other tools necessary to accomplish assigned task.
- Clean and perform routine maintenance on all equipment, such as snow blade changes, mounting/de-mounting of fall/winter equipment.
- Other duties as assigned.
NON-ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
- Must have the ability to perform very strenuous work in extremely adverse weather conditions.
- Knowledge of crew work practices, basic safety and traffic rules and regulations.
- Assumes additional duties and responsibilities as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES PREFERRED:
- Ability to read and write.
- Clean driving record with six months to one year truck driving experience preferred.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSE, REGISTRATIONS:
Must have a Class A or Class B Commercial Drivers license with endorsements as noted:
- Class A Commercial Drivers License:Air brake,Combination Vehicle,Tanker
- Class B Commercial Drivers License:Air Brake, Tanker
WORK ENVIORNMENT/PHYSICAL DEMANDS:Most work to be performed occurs outdoors. While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works near moving mechanical parts and in all weather conditions. The employee is frequently exposed to cold or heat and humidity, fumes or airborne particles and vibrations. Ability to climb into truck beds, ability to lift to 120 pounds, ability to push or pull equipment into position, abili y to perform very strenuous physical work. Exposure to oil and grease, solvents and other chemicals. This is a safety-sensitive position, subject to random testing for drugs and alcohol in accordance with City policy.
