We are currently seeking an inspiring operations leader to join our team in Leiden – The Netherlands. This is a manufacturing role that requires exceptional leadership skills and a proven track record of success. As the Business Unit Sr Manager, you will be responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations of our manufacturing department and ensuring the flawless execution of our production processes.

Job Responsibilities:

Supported by general direction in accordance with all applicable laws/regulations and Corporate Johnson & Johnson, procedures and guidelines, this position:

Production processes

  • Organize manufacturing areas to facilitate most efficient and effective production flow and methods.

  • Provide development and technical training opportunities to empower human resources and to establish a safe environment for all team members regardless of race, gender, or other differences.

  • Provide strong leadership for manufacturing performance measurement and continuous improvements in productivity, safety and quality.

  • Support strategic development of human resources at all levels within the manufacturing organization.

  • Provides leadership to the Manufacturing Operation by aiming to operations-wide strategies and objectives and participates in the development of plant manufacturing strategies and objectives.

  • Develops and implements expense and capital budgets and monitor progress to ensure compliance with business Plant.

  • Always ensure health and safety of employees. Use risk inventories performed by the “Arbodienst” and any other means available (EH&S work groups) to continuously improve work conditions.

  • Follows the CREDO and stimulates empowerment.

  • Responsible for communicating business related issues or opportunities to next management level.

  • Performs other duties assigned as needed

  • Supports the introduction of New Products/Equipment.

Safety

  • Partner with the EHS team to ensure safe operations and compliance with applicable EHS standards and regulations.

Compliance

  • Drives timely resolution of non-conformance and product complaints and ensures systemic improvement of procedures, equipment, and processes. Works to reduce all critical defects through the recall prevention program.

  • In conjunction with Finance & Accounting, ensure management controls are in effect to support SOX compliance requirements.

  • In conjunction with management representation from QA, ensure that all areas under direct responsibility are in full compliance with ISO 13485, the MD 93/42/EEC and any country specific regulations such as the Canadian Medical Device Regulations, FDA QSR (where applicable) and the Mentor Quality Management System.

Improvements

  • Use Process Excellence tools effectively and create a culture that ensures all levels in the department are using the tools along with metrics to improve the business and supports technical activities to ensure continuous process improvement.

  • Develops, tracks, and drives improvement in applicable measures contributing to improvements in productivity, cycle time, unit manufacturing cost, process yield, and inventory investment.

Audits en inspections

  • Support the business audits as relevant.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Manufacturing, Engineering, or a related field

  • Minimum of 8 years of experience in manufacturing, with at least 5 years in a management or leadership role

  • Consistent record of successfully conducting process improvements and driving operational excellence

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills

  • Exceptional leadership and communication abilities

Required skills:

  • Innovative: Is able to see continuous improvements in (work) processes and communicate these to line engineer.

  • Need for priority: Sets the right priorities, where necessary in close coordination with those involved.

  • Quality driven: Is focused on ensuring a thorough and flawless production process to meet the highest standards

  • Communication and relationships: Builds strong and productive relationships with all different departments and layers within the Leiden site and within the J&J network. Is able to effectively present improvement proposals to stakeholders and thereby guide the decision-making process.
