POSITION SUMMARY

This position will perform a variety of technical duties, including but not limited to; the intake and issuance of permits,

data entry, tracking and reporting. This position will also track enforcement and compliance with municipal code regulations

and ordinances. The Engineer Permit Technician will report to the City Engineer. 


ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES

1.   Responsible for various types of Engineer applications other office duties.

1.1     Informs customers regarding necessary permits and general code compliance of proposed projects.

1.2     Receives and reviews permit applications for completeness

1.3     Assess scope of project and relevant permit requirements.

1.4     Log and track plan review applications from submission until approval.

1.5     Proactively works with contractors and residents to provide project updates and to submit necessary project plans.

1.6     Verifies that projects have obtained all necessary approvals and verifies professional and contractor licensure.

1.7     Works with the City Engineer, and Engineer Inspectors to calculate and verify permit fees and accept payments.

1.8     Issues Engineering permits upon approval. 

1.9     Manages the scheduling of Engineering and Public Works inspections as they are received from contractors and residents.

1.10   Receives and tracks Right of Way bonds, and bond payments under the direction of the City Engineer.

1.11   Basic understanding of Engineering drawings, such as site plans, drainage plans, traffic control, etc.

  1.   Maintains Department Records

       &nbs p;  2.1     Manages and maintains an index of permit applications, plans, and other files.

          2.2     Logs inspections request and prepares daily inspection list.

          2.3     Tracks construction enforcement notices.

          2.4     Manages and organizes files and archives.

3.  Provides backup for other department functions

        3.1   Accepts and processes other department specific applications, permits, licenses, etc.

4.  Helps the public

4.1   Answers and directs office incoming telephone calls.

4.2   Directs walk-in visitors.

4.3   Assists City visitors with basic information about City programs and services.

4.4   Responsible for front counter assistance.

4.5   Records request processing

4.6   Other Duties as assigned


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND CERTIFICATIONS

Graduation from high school or GED equivalent and two (2) years related experience, or any equivalent combination of

related education and experience.

 

NECESSARY KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

1.   Knowledge of records management techniques; knowledge of general department programs and administrative procedures

2.   Knowledge of telephone etiquette.

2.   Basic knowledge of Engineering functions

3.   Basic accounting skills.

4.   Professionally handle incoming requests from customers and ensure that issues are resolved promptly and thoroughly.

5.   Developed sense of integrity and commitment to customer service and satisfaction.

6.   Ability to operate personal computer, Microsoft Office Soft are and Google apps.

7.   Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.

8.   Ability to use independent judgment.
