We are seeking a cleared, motivated GIS Database Engineer (DBE) to join our dynamic team. The ideal candidate will provide technical expertise in database design, development, implementation, and management, focusing on information storage and retrieval, data flow, and analysis. This role involves developing relational and/or object-oriented databases, database parser software, and database loading software. The GIS Database Engineer will work at the forefront of the system lifecycle, from requirements gathering through system acceptance testing and Initial Operational Capability (IOC).

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design, develop, and implement relational and/or object-oriented databases to support GIS applications.

  • Create and manage database parser software and database loading tools to ensure efficient data handling.

  • Project long-range requirements for database administration, considering data volumes, user numbers, logical and physical distribution, response times, retention rules, security, and domain controls.

  • Develop and optimize database structures to fit within the overall system architecture.

  • Translate project requirements into actionable technical specifications and documents.

  • Assist with recommendations for system improvements, optimization, and maintenance.

  • Create and maintain ad hoc queries, scripts, and macros for data manipulation and analysis.

  • Build and maintain complex systems using queries, tables, Open Database Connectivity (ODBC), and Cloud methodologies.

Requirements

  • 8-10 relevant year's experience in related field

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Geographic Information Systems (GIS), Database Management, or a related field.

  • Proven experience in designing and implementing relational and/or object-oriented databases.

  • Proficiency in SQL and other query languages.

  • Strong experience with database management systems (DBMS) such as MySQL, PostgreSQL, Oracle, or similar.

  • Familiarity with GIS software and tools (e.g., ESRI ArcGIS, QGIS).

  • Experience with Cloud-based database solutions and methodologies (e.g., AWS, Azure, Google Cloud).

  • Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to work on complex systems from inception through operational capability.

  • Strong analytical skills with a solid understanding of data flow and storage principles.

  • Ability to create and update queries, scripts, and macros for efficient data handling and reporting.

  • Effective communication skills and the ability to translate technical requirements into user-friendly documentation.

    Clearance: Must possess active TS/SCI with willingness to take CI Poly

  • Desired Skills:

  • Master’s degree in Computer Science, GIS, or a related field.

  • Advanced knowledge of object-oriented programming languages (e.g., Python, Java).

  • Experience with database parser and loading software development.

  • Familiarity with data security practices and data retention policies.

  • Knowledge of system architecture and design principles.

  • Experience in evaluating and recommending system improvements and optimizations.

  • Certification in relevant technologies (e.g., AWS Certified Database - Specialty, ESRI Technical Certification).
