Public Health Support Coordinator
- $45,953 - $61,581/ Year

Duties:
- Conducts non-nursing related activities in the Clinical and Community Health Services (CCHS) program area of the Health Department.
- Responsible for completing communicable disease investigations utilizing the Michigan Disease Surveillance System, including client interviews and obtaining information from healthcare providers and laboratories.
- Assists with aspects of clinic operation such as exam room preparation, specimen packaging, and medication/supply inventory.
- Receives and responds to communication from the public and community partners about issues related to public health nursing.
- Collaborates with Berrien County court system to coordinate court ordered parolee drug testing program.
- Performs administrative support to public health programs and is responsible for acquiring and applying knowledge of departmental practices.
- Maintains files and records on behalf of designated program(s); oversees filing of records, data input, maintenance and quality, and assists program staff in preparation of a variety of records and reports.
- Assists with metrics by gathering, compiling, and analyzing data related to health programs/projects.
- Interprets data and statistics for use in planning, monitoring, and evaluation.
- Provides education to clients and/or community partners.

Education and Experience:
- Bachelor's degree in public health, healthcare administration, human and/or social service related field; OR
- Associate degree public health, healthcare, human, and/or social service related field and two years of experience working in a public health or healthcare setting.
Special Requirements:
- Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license throughout the course of employment, with access to a reliable vehicle.
- Duties will take place at both the Benton Harbor and Niles offices of the Health Department.
- May occasionally include home visits.
- In times of a public health emergency, may be required to report for specialized assigned duties inside or outside of Berrien County.
Required Knowledge and Skills:
- Strong professional ethics, with the ability to maintain confidentiality.
- Thorough understanding of medical terminology and basic infectious disease processes.
- Excellent organizational and time-management skills.
- Strong computer skills, including the use of internet-based applications and MS Office Suite.
- Exceptional customer service skills and an ability to build rapport with individuals quickly, particularly on the phone.
- The ability to find clarity in somewhat ambiguous situations and provide support to team members.
- Capable of transitioning between tasks quickly and adjusting priorities when faced with interruptions.
- Understanding of structural influences on health, including the intersections of race and health, education and health, and income and health.
Desired Qualifications:
- Experience with disease surveillance systems, public health nursing, and/or epidemiology.
- Fluency in languages other than English, particularly Spanish.
