The Risk Management Division (RMD) operates Minnesota state government's self-insured program, along with the state workers' compensation and safety program. The division also insures the state's assets and provides property and casualty coverage. This position works in the Administrative Support unit.
In this position, you will perform claim payment processed by the Workers' Compensation Program, summarize claim payment activities, research and resolve errors, assist with the electronic interface of payment data from various systems, and provide auditing and reporting services. A wide variety of reporting needs will also be performed in this position. Along with team members, ensure data quality by producing necessary data elements that support the mission of RMD.
To promote a culture of flexibility, we offer staff a hybrid work environment that varies by team, position, and business needs. With a telework arrangement, onsite attendance may be required for team meetings or as requested by management to meet business needs. Completion of a telework agreement will be required.
Minimum Qualifications
The following qualifications are required of all applicants seeking consideration for this position. Only applicants whose application materials clearly demonstrate fulfillment of each of these minimum qualifications will be considered for the position.
One (1) year of experience in accounting, financial management, or closely related field.
An Associate's degree in accounting or closely related discipline may be substituted for six (6) months of experience as described.
A Bachelor's degree in accounting or closely related discipline may be substituted for one (1) year of experience as described.
Knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) principles and practices sufficient to analyze and interpret financial and accounting data.
Experience working with data and information management, data research and analysis, and data reporting in a network database environment.
Working knowledge of workers' compensation laws to calculate benefits and complete required forms and documents.
Experience working with the state's accounting system SWIFT or similar complex accounting systems.
Expertise in Excel sufficient to create spreadsheets, formulas, tabulate data, and run reports.
Communication and interpersonal skills to work with a variety of staff and clientele.
High attention to detail, accuracy, and the ability to problem solve and analyze complex information, along with managing multiple tasks and timelines.
Preferred Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or closely related discipline.
Professional accounting and reporting experience in state government.
Knowledge in using the State’s Information Warehouse for reporting purposes.
Working knowledge of Minnesota Workers’ Compensation laws sufficient to understand impact on workers’ compensation payments to calculate complex indemnity benefits, and to complete the annual supplementary reimbursement request forms.
Knowledge of property and casualty insurance programs.
