St. Jude Medical Cardiology Division Inc. Software Systems Engineer II in St. Paul, Minnesota

SOFTWARE SYSTEMS ENGINEER II St. Jude Medical, an Abbott Labs Co. / St. Paul, MN Responsible for contributing to completion of Research & Development (R&D) product development project activities, including understanding customer needs, definition, use cases, and functional software need identification, according to medical device development processes . Work independently and with other engineers in the software team and cross-functionally to develop workflow tests and identify software defects prior to publishing the software build. Work closely with cross-functional team, including design reviews with Quality Assurance (QA), Regulatory Affairs (RA), Test Engineers, Software Engineers, and Hardware Engineers to ensure that software and firmware designs meet the product requirements, including safety, reliability, and serviceability. Make, recommend, or justify critical technical decisions in product design for complex systems based on broad investigation, troubleshooting and testing . Provide training and technical support in launch phase . Lead and participate in software investigation of products in the early launch phase including assessing, tracking, documenting, and reporting issues , root cause analyses, and implementing solutions. Support process improvements to guide development, sustaining, and support activities. Engage subject matter experts (SMEs) in successful transfers of domain knowledge. Proactively share information across the team with the appropriate level of detail and timelines. Utilize knowledge and familiarity with all aspects of the Software Development Life Cycle and various methodologies. Assist with training team members in the basics and more advanced complexities of cardiac anatomy and electrophysiology (EP) and real work application of complex systems in the EP lab. Operate 3D mapping systems in a clinical laboratory environment or bench environment. Bachelor s or foreign equivalent degree in Computer Science, Electrical/Electronics Engineering, Biomedical Engineering or in a closely related engineering field of study with at least 2 years of medical device industry experience in: (i) Research & Development (R&D) product development project activities, including understanding customer needs, definition, use cases, and functional software need identification according to medical device development processes; (ii) making, recommending, or justifying critical technical decisions in product design for complex systems based on broad investigation, troubleshooting and testing; (iii) providing training and technical support in launch phase (iv) software investigation of products in the early launch phase including assessing, tracking, documenting, and reporting issues; (v) cardiac anatomy and electrophysiology (EP); and (vi) operating 3D mapping systems in a clinical laboratory environment or bench environment.
