Procurement Buyer

Position Summary

St. Petersburg is our primary soft gel development and manufacturing facility in North America with capacity of 18 billion capsules per year. The Procurement Buyer will support the local site to source both direct & indirect materials and services, support new indirect program introductions, evaluate the supply base, and implement strategic initiatives that deliver value to Catalent through cost savings, process improvements, supplier innovation, and supplier management, to help gain competitive advantages and meet customer needs. The Procurement Buyer will be responsible for managing the purchase order life cycle using JDE ERP software suite. Tactical activities may include spend reconciliation, vendor setup, PO entry or similar tasks.

The Role

  • Identify and support site-level and global procurement initiatives for cost savings, contract opportunities, supplier quality and risk mitigation of single sourced materials and services.

  • Process requisitions and place orders after approval with Catalent Pharma Solutions approved suppliers to obtain materials and services required to support product launches, dual sourcing efforts and cost savings initiatives.

  • Manage the end-to-end purchase order life cycle using JDE ERP suite.

  • Participates and supports new product and program launches to influence sourcing decision and purchase materials and services as needed to meet project timelines.

  • Communicate internally and externally in a timely manner regarding orders and delivery status.

  • Negotiates pricing and contracts, ensures compliance with contracts and global Catalent policies and procedures.

  • Process requisitions and place orders after approval with Catalent Pharma Solutions approved suppliers to obtain materials and services required to support product launches, dual sourcing efforts and cost savings initiatives.

  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with suppliers to ensure high-quality and market competitive pricing and commercial terms.

  • All other duties as assigned.

The Candidate

  • Bachelor’s degree BA/BS in business, purchasing, supply chain, finance, engineering, sciences, or other operations field is preferred with a minimum of 3 years of purchasing and/or supply chain experience, global operations, and finance management experience OR

  • Associate’s degree in business, purchasing, supply chain, finance, engineering, sciences, or other operations field is required with a minimum of 5 years of purchasing and/or supply chain experience, global operations, and finance management experience.

  • Extensive knowledge of procurement strategies, tactics, negotiation, and contracting skills.

  • High personal integrity and ethics with uncompromising standards.

  • Well organized, detail-oriented, able to multi-task under high pressure.

  • Possesses a proactive, sense of urgency and bias for action in the performance of role.

  • Self-motivated, disciplined, focused, and able to prioritize work (Determined to improve the overall throughput and financial goals of the organization.

  • Previous experience working in pharmaceutical, biotech or medical device industry is preferred.

  • Advanced PC skills (specifically Excel (Pivot, data analysis, formulas, charts), Power Point & Word) including knowledge and hands-on experience with ERP/MRP systems (JD Edwards 9.2 preferred but not required).

  • Able to bridge relationships with a variety of individuals and between various departments, sites, functions, and levels of the organization.

  • Ability to work effectively under pressure to meet deadlines. Individual may be required to sit, stand, walk regularly with some occasional lifting of up to 15 pounds; no lifting greater than 44.09 pounds without assistance. Be accessible to manufacturing floor and office staff, and to use required office equipment. Specific vision requirements include reading of written documents and use of computer monitor screen frequently.

  • Individual’s primary work area is in the office area where the noise level is low. Travel may be required.
