Residential & Dining Enterprises (R&DE), the largest auxiliary organization at Stanford University, supports the academic mission of the University by providing high-quality services to students and other members of the university community. The department has an annual operating budget of over $350M, operates 24/7/365, and oversees a $3B asset portfolio comprising a 7 million sq. ft. physical plant across the campus. In autumn quarter of the 2021-22 academic year, R&DE will return to providing housing for over 13,000 students and dependents, serving meals at 17 dining halls, 12 retail locations, and operating athletic concessions and conference operations. Additionally, R&DE comprises 900 FTE staff in the following divisions: Student Housing Operations, Stanford Dining, Stanford Hospitality & Auxiliaries, Stanford Conferences, Maintenance Operations and Capital Projects, and a team of R&DE strategic business partners: Finance & Administration, Information Technology, Human Resources, and Strategic Communications.

This role is designated as essential and requires incumbents to report to work onsite. Telecommuting is not available for this role.

This series of job classifications describes positions in which the major function is performing cleaning and light maintenance tasks. Employees perform routine replacement of lamps in light fixtures, repair and replace Venetian blinds, pick up and deliver custodial supplies, etc. They also carry out other facilities services, such as hauling and setting up furniture and appliances, touch-up painting benches and tables, etc.

Job Responsibilities:

Employees at this level perform a range of light maintenance, repair, installation and laboring tasks using hand and power tools. Work is scheduled by a supervisor/lead who provides instructions as appropriate; work is reviewed by the supervisor/lead to see whether quality and scheduling requirements have been met. The employee may work alone or as a member of a crew with or without lead responsibility.

Characteristics Duties:

The duties listed under this section are designed to provide a representative sampling of key and/or responsibilities associated with the job. They are not intended to be a complete list of all duties performed by employees in the classification.

· Water vacuum, pull carpet and remove pad.

· Repair broken furniture by replacing broken parts, replacing missing screws, regluing joints, etc. Build, repair and install counters, benches, partitions, floors, doors, stairs, ladders, building framework, etc.

· Trim bookshelves to size, paint, re-finish, strip, stain and install furnishings as directed.

· Replace ceiling tiles.

· Install or repair room numbers, signs, paper towel dispensers, soap dispensers, toilet seats, blinds, shades, window screens, bulletin boards and chalk boards.

· Install door pulls, drawer pulls, window latches and door stops.

· Replace light switch plate covers, outlet covers, light pull chains, electrical cords and plugs on cords.

· Assemble bed frames and modular furniture.

· Clean or replace shower heads, faucet washers, unplug drains. Attach hangers, hooks, etc. to walls and ceiling.

· Tighten or replace screws, nails, bolts in hinges, frames, furniture, etc.

· Haul debris and trash such as furniture, carpeting, construction materials, etc. to disposal sites.

· Replace lock cores.

· Provide event and conference support by setting up and removing tables, seating and equipment.

· May direct the work of other staff, including contractors and temporary staff; assign and explain tasks to workers based on instructions and specifications received from supervisor/lead.

· May perform any of the duties described in the Project Crew I specification or other duties as assigned.

· Adhere to safety rules.

Minimum Education and Experience Required:

  • One year of relevant work experience or a combination of equivalent education and relevant experience.

Minimum Qualifications:

· Project Crew II has all of the qualifications described in the Project Crew I specification plus the following qualifications:

· Must be skilled in tasks they direct and be able to answer questions effectively and solve task-related problems.

· Must have the ability to affect good working relationships with other employees.

· Must be able to follow verbal and/or written instructions and communicate those to others.

  • Ability to demonstrate and maintain a client service attitude and approach to students and other customers.

  • Ability to operate power and hand tools in a safe manner in accordance with manufacturer’s recommendations.

Certificates and Licenses Required:

  • Valid California Class C Noncommercial Driver’s License.

Physical Requirements:

· Ability to obtain and maintain aCaliforniaNon-commercial Classlicense.

Working Conditions:

· May be required to work overtime, eveningsand weekends, includingHolidays, sometimes in inclementweatherconditions.

· Required to wear appropriate uniform.

· May be required to wear PPE.

· May be required to work in confined spaces and at heights over 10 feet.

· Ability to perform heavy manual labor in all types of outside weather conditions.

· Constantly stand, walk ∙ Frequently grasp forcefully, lift up to 20 pounds.

· Occasionally kneel, crawl, twist,bend, stoop, squat, climb (laddersandscaffolds), reach above shoulders, use light/fine grasping,lift21-40 pounds.

· Rarely perform seated work, desk-based tasks, use a telephone,writeby hand sort/file paperwork,scrub, sweep, chop, mix, lift over40pounds.

· Visual acuity including colorvision.

The expected pay for this position is $33.80 (Step 1) per hour. Placement in the pay range is subject to the applicable Collective Bargaining Agreement.

Internal candidate rates will be applied based on the CBA language for promotion and transfer.
