Minimum Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Possession of a current Louisiana license to practice pharmacy plus three years of experience as a licensed pharmacist.

Job Concepts

To inspect pharmacies and other facilities where drugs are stored, sold, held, distributed, or dispensed.

General from the Pharmacist--Chief Compliance Officer or other higher-level administrator.

Job Distinctions:

Differs from other professional Pharmacist jobs by the regulatory nature of the work in ensuring that permitted facilities and regulated individuals are in compliance with laws and regulations.

Examples of Work

Performs routine compliance inspections to assure that required licensing, permitting and/or certification are current, equipment and references required for operation are available and adequate, required records of procurement and disposition are available and accurate, drug storage areas are maintained securely and meet required standards, patient counseling services are provided, pharmacists' continuing education documents are available and appropriate, staffing is appropriate, and that the hours of operation are adequate.

Investigate complaints of alleged violations of pharmacy law. Performs detailed investigations to prove or disprove the complaint and produce sufficient evidence in an administrative hearing or court of law to document non-compliance.

Initiates, or assists with audits of all drugs received, dispensed, destroyed, or otherwise disposed of to determine compliance with record keeping requirements or to detect diversion of drugs. Prepare detailed written reports of all investigations and audits performed.

Provide expert testimony for adjudication of cases at hearings of the Board of Pharmacy.

Inspects and approves or denies new permit applications, changes of location, and changes of ownership of pharmacies.

Provide compliance guidelines and information to health care professionals, agencies, and the general public.

Perform emergency enforcement tasks such as seizing licenses or permits, collecting evidence, overseeing drug salvaging operations, disaster management, securing drug inventories following seizures/foreclosures, and assisting other enforcement agencies in apprehending drug law violators.

Assist in the monitoring of the activities of impaired pharmacists, students, or technicians for compliance with Board of Pharmacy orders, drug screening programs, aftercare contracts, and conditions of probation.

Assist the Board of Pharmacy's General Counsel in coordinating and presenting cases of alleged violations for Board action.

Perform emergency enforcement tasks such as seizing licenses or permits, collecting evidence, salvaging and securing drug permits, collecting evidence, salvaging and securing drug inventories, and assisting other enforcement agencies in apprehending drug law violators.

Prepares reports on inspections and investigations for the Board of Pharmacy. Supervises, directs, and assists with drug accountability audits and investigations.

Provide expert testimony for adjudication of cases at hearings of the Board of Pharmacy.

Assists in ensuring collections of all Board of Pharmacy ordered assessments and court costs.

Assist the Executive Director of the Board of Pharmacy in interviewing prospective permit applicants.

Prepares and presents case reports for candidates requesting reinstatement or reciprocity.

Assist the Executive Director in monitoring activities of impaired pharmacists, students or technicians for compliance with Board of Pharmacy orders, drug screening programs, aftercare contracts, and conditions of probation.
