Associated Eye Care, LTD Specialized Technician - Clinical Assistant in Stillwater, Minnesota

Position Summary This individual will assist providers in day-to-day flow and is responsible for accurately documenting the patient s exam into the electronic health record and assisting with patient education and communication. This position will assist with gathering essential medical information from the patient, performing a variety of diagnostic tests and screenings, and providing the ophthalmic provider with needed information to accurately assess the patient s ocular health. The Specialized Technician/Clinical Assistant will assist with facilitation of surgeries, procedures, clinic flow, scheduling of return appointments, and having complete documentation of the patient exam into the patient s electronic health record as directed by the provider. The individual is also responsible for upholding AEC s commitment to world class patient experience and high quality at a great value. Specialized Technician/Clinical Assistant Essential Functions Assists with patient flow through clinic by greeting and rooming patients, scribing, and walking patients to appropriate department (front desk, technicians, and surgery schedulers to complete patient visit. Documents patient exams in electronic health record, noting specifically the exam components, diagnoses, treatment plans, orders, medications, return to clinic orders and coding of visit and charges are accurate as directed by the physician. Enter all surgical orders per provider s request. Collaborates with the surgery counselors and ambulatory surgery center staff regarding the accurateness of these surgical orders. Schedules clinic and procedure appointments and/or enter recalls as ordered by the MD. Stays up to date on requirements of clinic appointments, if there is a direct impact on billing, and is responsible for making sure all criteria are met. Dispense over the counter samples as directed by the provider. Document dispensed medications in electronic health record. Reviews all chart notes and correspondence daily to ensure accuracy and completeness. Sets up procedure rooms and prep patients for the sterile and clean procedures according to the providers preferences. Responsible for surgical instrument cleaning, sterilizing and care of surgical instruments in the clinic setting. Prepares culture specimens including proper storage, documentation, and transportation. Responsible for maintaining PAR levels of special lab and specimens required by provider. Efficiently and accurately work up patient for comprehensive and subspecialty optometrists and ophthalmologists including, but not limited to visual acuity, tonometry, insertion of appropriate eye drops, tech external exam, retinoscopy and subjective refinement of refractometry, lensometry and proficient in all clinical special testing as directed. Accurately document information gathered during exam in accordance with AEC s procedures and policies. Directly involved with supply management that are unique to the provider for special procedures. Assist providers in meeting governmental and coding requirements. Provide excellent customer service to patients and teammates. Respond appropriately within level of certification and promptly to patients questions. Triage phone calls, process medication refills, and process prior authorization request. Properly and timely documenting any communication with patient or pharmacy into patient s electronic health record. Participate in advanced training of new technology to continue to provide the highest level of service to patients utilizing AEC s premium products; this may require afterhours work. Assist providers in meeting governmental and coding requirements. Abide by all policies and procedures as outlined in AEC s employee handbook. Participate in regular team meetings to ensure effective team performance and advance inter-department communications; this may require afterhours work. Responsible for ongoing professional self-development Other Essential Functions Must be willing nd able to work a variety of hours and work in the various locations as needed. Must present self at the workstation, ready for work, at the scheduled time. Work with all AEC providers Participates in department and company meetings, as requested. Performs other duties as assigned.
