Stony Brook University Assistant Director of Development, Student Affairs in Stony Brook, New York

Required Qualifications (as evidenced by an attached resume):

Bachelor's degree (foreign equivalent or higher). Three (3) years of full-time fundraising, sales and/or related experience in a higher education institution, a large non-profit, or complex healthcare system. Proven record of success in cultivating, soliciting, and raising funds from individual donors and/or institutions.

Preferred Qualifications:

Demonstrated experience in fundraising campaigns. Proven success in closing leadership annual giving level gifts. Proficiency in contact management software, such as Raiser's Edge.

Brief Description of Duties:
The Assistant Director of Development will lead fundraising for University Advancement, focusing on securing support for the Division of Student Affairs. This includes student health, wellness, prevention services, student life, career development, and campus residences. The Assistant Director will collaborate with Advancement and Student Affairs to design a comprehensive fundraising strategy, cultivate key prospects, and solicit gifts from individual donors and corporate sponsors. The role requires meeting annual metrics and managing multiple priorities and donor relationships.

  • Develop and implement a comprehensive fundraising program in collaboration with Advancement leadership. Collaborate with the Student Affairs marketing team to develop print, digital, and website materials that communicate campus needs to prospective donors and corporate sponsors.
  • Achieve specific goals for contacts, portfolio management, proposals, and funds raised.
  • Coordinate efforts with the University Advancement team, participate in various tasks and functions, and communicate progress effectively.
  • Manage a core group of annual funds and major gift prospects, from identification to solicitation, while stewarding existing donors.
  • Engage faculty and volunteers in cultivation and solicitation activities and attend relevant events to advance donor relationships.
  • Assist in coordinating cultivation activities, donor recognition, and stewardship events to support fundraising goals. Represent the Division of Student Affairs on university committees.
  • Utilize and maintain prospect tracking and contact reporting through Raiser's Edge.
  • Prepare written proposals and support documentation for gift acceptance in compliance with SBU Foundation accounting procedures.
  • Contribute to the Division of Student Affairs and Stony Brook University by attending and/or supporting events, activities, and programs.
  • Other duties or projects as assigned as appropriate to rank and departmental mission.

Special Notes:
This is a full-time appointment. FLSA Exempt position, not eligible for the overtime provisions of the FLSA. Minimum salary threshold must be met to maintain FLSA exemption.

In addition to the employee's base salary, this position is eligible for $3,400 UUP annual location pay, paid biweekly.
