Description

The Lichtenstein Center is seeking part-time visiting writers to teach introductory and elective courses and workshops in creative writing as part of the BFA and Minor in Creative Writing. Elective courses may include topics in fiction, poetry, or multigenre. The successful candidate is expected to teach 1 or 2 courses or workshops per semester, dependent on course availability. In addition to teaching, the successful candidate will advise students on independent reading or other projects. This is a non-tenure track position to begin in the Fall 2024 semester (8/26/24).

Our program is committed to a highly diversified curriculum across many genres of writing, including but not limited to fiction (of every sort, including speculative, experimental, etc.), poetry, creative non-fiction, and memoir. Students are strongly encouraged to take exploratory, multi-disciplinary, hybrid approaches to their writing in order to discover the idioms in which they are most powerfully able to recognize and express themselves.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must have a strong record of publication, including at least one book-length work of literary merit from a respected press; an M.F.A. (foreign equivalent or higher) in Creative Writing or the equivalent, such as a B.A. with an exceptionally strong record of publication in at least one genre or a PhD (or foreign equivalent) with a strong record of publication in at least one genre. Evidence of successful teaching of creative writing on the undergraduate and/or graduate level.

Preferred Qualifications:
Competence or interest in teaching a diverse curricula, which may include, for example, writers of color, writers with disabilities, LGBTQ writers, or literature in translation. Experience in teaching or writing genre fiction (speculative, fantasy, etc.).
