Amazon Principal Product Manager, Tech, Alexa Smart Home in Sunnyvale, California

Do you want to lead the product strategy for a new smart home protocol, Matter, that will shape the future the Smart Home category for decades to come? Our team is working with other tech companies to define a new protocol that will make smart home devices more interoperable, enable novel use cases, and reduce customer friction from purchasing to daily usage of their smart home. As a Principal Product Manager - Tech, you will be the product management leader responsible for Amazon’s Matter strategy and product roadmap.

This role is inherently cross-functional - you will work closely with engineering, design, operation, marketing, user research, and finance among other teams. You will also drive regular roadmap and strategy reviews with senior leadership across multiple Amazon teams.

A successful candidate will be both creative and highly analytical, able to work extremely effectively in a matrix organization, comfortable dealing with ambiguity, and adept at synthesizing a variety of technologies and capabilities (including advanced sensors, computer vision, and generative AI) into products that customers love. We are looking for someone customer obsessed and technology savvy, with a proven track record of creating successful product portfolios.

Key job responsibilities

  • Drive the development of the vision, strategy, roadmap, and business plan for Amazon’s Matter strategy, and drive alignment with senior executives and cross-functional partners.

  • Lead senior-level technical, complex and high impact negotiations with external partners.

  • Be a passionate advocate for the customer; understand and articulate customer needs, and conduct ongoing customer research.

  • Research and understand the capabilities and limitations of advanced sensing, vision, display, and generative AI technologies and their impact on the customer experience.

  • Write requirements documents, define use cases and customer experience, and own the business metrics and KPIs for your products.

  • Work closely with leadership, engineering and research teams, sales, business development, PR, solutions architects, professional services and partner, to achieve business goals

Basic Qualifications

  • 8+ years of product or program management, product marketing, business development or technology experience

  • Bachelor's degree

  • Experience with feature delivery and tradeoffs of a product

  • Experience owning/driving roadmap strategy and definition

  • Experience with end to end product delivery

  • Experience contributing to engineering discussions around technology decisions and strategy related to a product

  • Experience technical product management

  • Experience presenting to senior leadership to drive consensus and articulating program recommendations and tradeoffs

Preferred Qualifications

  • 7+ years of end to end product delivery experience

  • Deep experience with smart home products and brands or smart home protocols

  • MBA and/or computer science, engineering, technology background is preferred

  • High attention to detail, ability to deal with ambiguity, and manage multiple, competing priorities simultaneously

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $161,900/year in our lowest geographic market up to $279,900/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
