Amazon Sr. Software / Data Science Engineer, Manufacturing Data Analytics in Sunnyvale, California

As a member of a compact team, your responsibilities will involve playing an integral role in the creation and development of highly sophisticated manufacturing analytics systems, ensuring Amazon devices meet the highest quality standards, powered by optimized assembly and test processes. Proficiency in data science, SPC and AI/ML technologies will be highly advantageous, as they will enable the extraction of valuable insights from vast amounts of raw data.

Key job responsibilities

The SDE/Data scientist should have AI/ML/SPC background and be familiar with web application components (e.g., HTML, API, Database), Python and SQL. The individual is expected to interact with users to develop requirements, develop functional specs, design documents, and apply algorithms on large amounts of data. Excellent written and verbal communication skills are required as the candidate will work very closely with diverse teams. Responsibilities include:

  • Apply knowledge of AWS technologies to design analytics solutions

  • Be part of architectural design and implementation of next generation AI/ML technologies, including natural language queries

  • Capable of building AI/ML models, such as to detect parametric variation, recommend sampling based on historical data, and build predictive use cases

  • Ensure scalability, system performance, and availability to support large data ingestion/analytics from our world-wide manufacturing sites

  • Participate in agile development process and provide input and recommendations to the project manager

  • Mentor and develop other SDEs.

A day in the life

The candidate will be responsible for participating in functional requirements reviews, creating detailed design documentation, taking part in sprint planning and execution, code reviews, designing test cases, ensuring the final deliverables delight and meet customer expectations. Leverage AI/ML and data science to uncover insights, create efficiency and perform data driven modeling. About the team

Our team is a small but customer-focused group of about eight developers. We have a shared enthusiasm for crafting products that improve real-time transparency throughout our Device's supply chain. Our strong passion lies in eliminating unnecessary work, automating processes, inventing innovative solutions, and simplifying tasks for the benefit of our customers. We work closely with a large stakeholder community that ensures Amazon devices consistently meet the highest standards of quality and performance, irrespective of their manufacturing location. Using historical data to predict and create business efficiencies, the team will accelerate defect detection, implement machine assisted root cause analysis and corrective action, and optimize processes.

Basic Qualifications

  • 5+ years of non-internship professional software development experience

  • 5+ years of programming with at least one software programming language experience

  • 5+ years of leading design or architecture (design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and existing systems experience

  • Experience as a mentor, tech lead or leading an engineering team

Preferred Qualifications

  • 5+ years of full software development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, and operations experience

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science or equivalent

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $151,300/year in our lowest geographic market up to $261,500/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
