OrePac Building Products Corporate Logistics Manager in Tacoma, Washington

Job Title: Corporate Logistics Manager

Pay & FSLA Status: $95,000-$115,000 base salary D.O.E. + additional bonus opportunity; Salary exempt

Regular Schedule & Shift: Monday - Friday; Day shift

Regular Weekly Hours: Full-time/40 hours per week (overtime as needed)

Paid Time Off (PTO): 80 hours accrued year 1; 120 hours accrued annually after year 1

Paid Sick Time: Per state requirements

Branch Location: Corporate office in Wilsonville, OR (hybrid flexible); Position can be based in Wilsonville, OR or Tacoma, WA

POSITION SUMMARY:

Reporting to the Director of Supply Chain and Logistics, the Corporate Logistics Manager is responsible for overseeing OrePac’s vehicle fleet and related staff with a focus on developing, implementing, and administering relevant programs, policies, and procedures that increase productivity and efficiency, reduce cost, improve safety, and support OrePac’s broader growth objectives. OrePac currently has a fleet of 160 units (including Class A, B and C vehicles) and intends to expand to 180–200 units.

    ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Develop and manage fleet and product movement strategies within multiple divisions, including: OrePac Distribution, OrePac Logistics locations, Pacific Manufacturing, Western Timber, as well as inbound (from supplier) and outbound (direct to customer) finished goods product movement.

  • Provide branch support, including coordination of regional freight transfers.

  • Work with Purchasing to procure international and domestic freight lanes to ensure timely and cost-effective inbound deliveries.

  • Ensure a prioritized and cohesive process for vehicle and equipment repair that balances vehicle uptime and cost. Track maintenance issues to identify trends and develop preventative maintenance practices.

  • Implement technology and training efforts to drive improvement in safety outcomes.

  • Ensure compliance with OrePac policies regarding property loss, workers compensation, regulatory compliance, industry best practices, and OrePac equipment operation polices. Maintain ongoing GPS audit program.

  • Assist in procuring new vehicles and equipment.

  • Assist in the research and development of surveillance-based platforms.

  • Maintain fleet vendor relationships.

  • Prepare and present analysis to help develop an annual fleet-related budget. Manage expenses to stay within approved budgets.

    REQUIRED SKILLS:

  • Ability to travel to OrePac locations up to 25% of the time. Lodging and meals will be provided by OrePac.

  • Excellent knowledge and understanding of Highway Traffic Act, E-Logs, and Federal and Provincial regulations for Hours of Service regulations, route optimization, delivery efficiencies, commercial vehicles, drivers, and truck and trailer technicians.

  • Experience in leading teams, including the ability to effectively and efficiently handle personnel conflicts while successfully driving company and department initiatives and goals.

  • Ability to problem solve minor to complex challenges within the department utilizing the tools and resources available and escalate the matter when appropriate.

  • Demonstrated ability to coach and mentor staff. Ability to encourage and model effective work habits and work effectively with diverse groups, individually or in a team environment. Ability to articulate direction and expectations to teammates in a clear and concise manner.

  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to write routine reports and correspondence and the ability to speak effectively before groups of people consisting of employees, customers, and/or members of leadership.

    REQUIRED EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Logistics, Finance, or related field.

  • 2 or more years of experience in a logistics or commercial driving field managing a fleet of at least 75 units.

  • 2 or more years of management experience.

  • Any combination of education, training, or experience that demonstrates the ability to perform the duties of the position will be accepted in place of the education and/or experience requirements listed for this role.
