The Florida Department of Health (DOH) is responsible for the health and safety of all citizens and visitors to the state. As a public health agency, the Florida Department of Health must monitor the health status of Floridians, diagnose, and investigate health problems, and mobilize local communities to address health-related issues. The Florida Department of Health develops policies and plans that support health goals, enforce laws and regulations that protect the health of all residents and visitors, and link people to needed health care services. The Florida Department of Health also provides specialized assistance to pregnant women, infants, and children with special health care needs, regulates health care practitioners, and provides medical disability determinations.
Health Educator Consultant:
The incumbent in this position will serve in the Office of Minority Health and will coordinate public health reaccreditation responsibilities through managing and reporting agency activities across multiple Divisions. The incumbent will also coordinate agency health literacy activities with an existing internal committee. The individual will help support some programs and efforts to address health disparities, and support grant writing and publication needs for the Community Health Division. Duties will include participating on internal councils, committees and workgroups, participation in local health initiatives, developing health education communication materials, as well as preparing grant applications, manuscripts, reports and other written materials. This position may occasionally work evenings and weekends.
Your Specific Responsibilities:
• Managing public health accreditation responsibilities for the agency
• Managing programs and initiatives to support health literacy
• Participating on internal councils, committees and workgroups
• Preparing posters, manuscripts, reports and grant applications
• Complete routine reporting to meet local and state requirements and deadlines.
• Address health disparities through public health interventions that are evidence-based and have been demonstrated to be successful.
• Position activities may occur before, during or after normal working hours and/or on weekends or holidays
• Utilizes own vehicle for transportation unless carpooling is possible or alternate transportation is provided.
• Work before, during and after disasters if needed.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Knowledge of the principles and practices of health promotion planning.
Ability to manage projects, tracking multiple deadlines and details.
Ability to collect and analyze data.
Ability to prepare reports, publications and grant applications.
Ability to plan, organize and coordinate work assignments.
Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in written form.
Ability to facilitate meetings and support planning processes.
Ability to understand and apply applicable rules, regulations, policies and procedures.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.
Ability to develop and carry out program monitoring and evaluation.

Qualifications:
Minimum:
At least 1 year experience in the public health or healthcare field
At least 2 years’ experience preparing or reviewing written public health reports
At least 2 years’ experience using Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint and Teams.
Preferred:
Bachelor’s degree in public health / health related field OR at least 4 years’ experience in public health or healthcare field
