State of Massachusetts Director of Safety, Security, and Emergency Management in Tewksbury, Massachusetts

Tewksbury Hospital, under the Massachusetts Department of Public Health (DPH) is seeking a Director of Safety, Security, and Emergency Management. Our selected applicant will play an essential role in ensuring the safety and security of patients, visitors, vendors, and staff. Your responsibilities will encompass a wide range of critical functions, including coordinating and overseeing safety protocols, emergency preparedness initiatives, and security measures across the hospital campus. Partnering closely with senior leadership and department supervisors, you will be integral in maintaining compliance with accreditation and regulatory standards while upholding the hospital's mission of providing high-quality care in a secure environment. In this role, you will serve as a key liaison between the hospital and various external agencies, including federal, state, and local law enforcement, as well as regulatory bodies such as The Joint Commission (TJC) and the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS). Your expertise will be essential in developing and implementing emergency management plans, response protocols, and continuity of operations strategies to ensure the hospital's readiness to handle any potential crisis or disaster situation. Additionally, you will lead efforts to modernize and renovate patient care areas, leveraging your subject matter expertise to enhance safety and security throughout the facility. As the Director of Safety, Security, and Emergency Management, you will have the opportunity to shape and strengthen the culture of emergency preparedness throughout the organization. Saturday and Sunday off. /_Duties and Responsibilities (these duties are a general summary and not all inclusive): _/ * Coordinate and oversee all aspects of safety, security, and emergency management functions across Tewksbury Hospital, ensuring compliance with accreditation and regulatory standards. * Serve as the primary liaison with federal, state, and local law enforcement agencies, as well as regulatory bodies such as TJC and CMS. * Develop and implement emergency management plans, response protocols, and continuity of operations strategies to ensure readiness for crisis situations. * Lead efforts to modernize and renovate patient care areas, utilizing subject matter expertise to enhance safety and security throughout the facility. * Collaborate with other hospitals within the Public Health Hospitals System to establish consistent safety, security, and emergency management practices. * Provide guidance and support to hospital leadership on regulatory compliance and best practices in safety and security. * Design and deliver educational materials and presentations to promote a culture of emergency preparedness among internal and external stakeholders. * Chair the Environment of Care Committee and prioritize training initiatives identified by accrediting and regulatory agencies. * Ensure compliance with safety standards set by regulatory agencies (TJC and CMS). * Direct and oversee the operations of the Campus Police, Compliance, Communications, and Safety Department. * Evaluate staffing patterns and make recommendations for changes based on campus needs. * Maintain positive professional relationships with external program leadership and staff. /_Preferred Qualifications: _/ · Extensive experience (minimum 5 years) and comprehensive knowledge of security, safety, and emergency management operations in a 24/7 campus. · Thorough understanding of accreditation and regulatory standards relevant to healthcare facilities (e.g., The Joint Commission, CMS), NFPA codes/standards as well as knowledge of standards, regulations, inspections, and hospital incident command. · Knowledge of Environment of Care standards in a hospital setting. · Experience in coordinating with external agencies and stakeholders, including law enforcement, regulatory bodies, and community organizations. · Strong leadership skills with the ability to effectively manage and motivate multidisciplinary teams. · Excellent oral and written communications skills necessary to interact with vendors and staff. · Ability to work with diverse individuals and create an inclusive work environment · Demonstrated ability to prioritize tasks, manage multiple projects simultaneously, and adapt to changing priorities in a fast-paced environment. · Skilled critical thinker who uses logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions or approaches to opportunities or threats to success. · Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications including Word, Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint and Teams. /_DPH Mission Statement: _/ The mission of the Massachusetts Department of Public Health (DPH) is to prevent illness, injury, and premature death, to assure access to high-quality public health and health care services, and to promote wellness and health equity for all people in the Commonwealth. Its patient care services are provided under the auspices of the Department of Public Health and Mental Health. The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) is responsible for the administration of a Joint Commission accredited LTAC hospital that provides high quality, comprehensive treatment, care, and comfort to adults with chronic medical and mental illness. A full range of services are provided including 24/7 Nursing, Nurse Practitioners, Medicine as well as psychiatric and psychological services, a 6-chair dialysis suite, clinical laboratory, radiology, respiratory care, nutrition, speech/language, pathology, occupational therapy, physical therapy, therapeutic recreation and arts, and pharmacy.
