Executive Director, Principal Gifts

UTHealth Houston seeks an established fundraiser to serve as the Executive Director, Principal Gifts (Executive Director). This is a unique opportunity to join a dynamic philanthropy team and help support one of the most respected academic medical centers.

Founded in 1972, UTHealth Houston is a leading academic health university in Texas, encompassing schools of dentistry, medicine, nursing, public health, biomedical sciences, biomedical informatics, and behavioral sciences. Situated within the Texas Medical Center—recognized as the world's largest medical complex—UTHealth Houston operates over 60 properties, totaling nearly 5 million square feet of functional space. With a faculty of over 2,400 and more than 8,000 staff members, UTHealth Houston educates upwards of 6,500 students and trainees yearly and has a global alumni network of over 50,000. Reporting to the Vice President, Principal Gifts and Strategic Initiatives, the Executive Director will play a pivotal role in advancing medical research breakthroughs, shaping the future of medicine through education, and enhancing patient care. In recent years, the philanthropic landscape has increasingly focused on ultra-high-net-worth donors due to their critical role in giving. UTHealth Houston has seen a substantial growth in support, and the next chapter will require collaborative and comprehensive efforts. This position demands an individual with a high executive presence and exceptional interpersonal skills, capable of strategically aligning and synergizing people, places, and initiatives to maximize philanthropic impact.

In 2023, UTHealth Houston successfully completed the Many Faces. One Mission. campaign, surpassing its goal and raising $534.4 million. The incoming Executive Director will build on this momentum, collaborating closely with the Vice President, Principal Gifts to enhance transformational philanthropy opportunities further. They will work directly with campus leaders to create, define, and promote opportunities for impactful giving. Additionally, the Executive Director will manage a portfolio of principal gift prospects and actively seek new donors, including those from the grateful patient community. In partnership with advancement colleagues, the Executive Director will play a key role in pinpointing and shaping transformative gift initiatives across the campus. This role requires a strategic thinker who can connect diverse stakeholders to pursue shared, ambitious philanthropic goals.

The ideal candidate will be a distinguished fundraiser with a proven track record of cultivating, soliciting, and stewarding complex gifts. The individual should be an intellectually curious team player. The ideal candidate should have at least seven years of related professional experience, preferably in medicine, health care, or higher education.
