Coatesville Area School District Director of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) in Thorndale, Pennsylvania

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

The Coatesville Area School District is committed to promoting diversity, equity, and inclusion, and to providing a platform to achieve equality for all persons of diverse backgrounds. The Director of DEI-

  1. Works collaboratively with District-level instructional leaders to support the use of culturally responsive pedagogy, practice, and curriculum. 
  2. Plans, guides, and advises Superintendent and staff on equity, inclusion, and diversity matters.
  3. Collaborates with District Administrative teams to create, implement, and monitor programs to ensure far and equitable treatment of students, faculty, and staff. 
  4. Collaborate with the Assistant Superintendent and curriculum supervisors to assess district curriculum and instructional materials and propose new resources to ensure alignement with the DEI expectations. 
  5. Monitor and assist with the collection of review of data regarding disparate achievement or other outcomes for students from diverse backgrounds and ability levels and provide recommendations for improvement based on the data reviews. 
  6. Assists with compliance and development of policies and procedures related to equity, diversity, and inclusion to support the district's equity goals and objectives. 
  7. Collaborate with the Director of Human Resources, Assistant Superintendent, and building principals to promote the recruitment, support, and retention of a workforce that mirrors the demographic composition of the district's student body. 
  8. Ensure critical documents are properly translated to maximize access to information for students and families whose primary language is a language other than English. 
  9. Develops metrics for measuring effectiveness of district-wide diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives. 
  10. Manages projects with up-to-date information and determines which new technologies are needed to successfully solve problems. 
  11. Uplifting and acknowledging the achievements and contributions of the various cultures that make up the tapestry of our District through school and community events. 
  12. Supports the Director of Pupil Services with implementation of the district's English Language Development (ELD) program and Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS) framework as they relate to DEI.
  13. Collaborates with the Director of Pupil Services and building principals on the planning and implementation of all matters related to Social & Emotional Learning (SEL).
  14. Oversees Restorative Practices across the district. 
  15. Serves as an internal consultant to staff on matters relating to equity, inclusion, and diversity; coordinates the Equity Planning Committee building level Equity Teams, and community groups focusing on equity, inclusion, and diversity matters. 
  16. Stays abreast of trends and innovation around diversity and preapres written materials, (e.g. procedures, reports, memos, letters, budgets, etc.) for the purpose of documenting activities, updating the website information, and for conveying information.
  17. Assists with gathering, researching, and analyzing data for use in analysis that helps identify equity gaps. Completes reporting to meet federal and state requirements in diversity, equity, and inclusion. 
  18. Research, draft, and submit proposals that help CASD receive grant funding. 
  19. Perform any other duties as assigned by the Superintendent. 

*QUALIFICATIONS: *To successfully perform this position, a person must be able to perform each primary duty satisfactorily. The qualification requirements listed below represent

minimum levels of educational achievement, training, skills, and/or ability necessary.

  1. Master's degree in education or a related field required. (Psychology, Human Resources, School Counseling, Multicultural Education, Social Work, Organizational Development, Communications, etc.)
  2. Must have a valid Pennsylvania Department of Education administrative or superviso y certificate.
  3. At least three years of leadership experience advancing diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) within an educational setting preferred.
  4. Extensive knowledge and understanding of issues and concerns of historically marginalized groups; understanding of issues and concerns of a variety of groups.
  5. Experience with grant writing.
  6. Ability to establish credibility, relate effectively, and gain the trust of others.
  7. Ability to interact effectively with and provide guidance to staff, students, parents/guardians, and community members.
  8. Skill at negotiating and consensus building to support administrative decisions and programs.
  9. Exceptional oral and written communication skills.
  10. Detail-oriented with excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
  11. Ability to efficiently manage time and a variety of responsibilities. 
  12. Knowledge of PA School Code, EEO, IDEA, Federal Programs and related regulations in the field of education.
  13. Ability to work effectively with faculty, staff, and administrators to develop and implement educational best practices in diversity.
