Position Description:

Gilead is seeking an Associate Director, Human Resources Business Partner (“HRBP”) who will work with

the Senior Director, Human Resources in support of the Japan affiliate. In this role, you will support the

leaders and teams in Japan. Some key areas of responsibility include enabling local organizational

design and development, partnering on talent management and inclusion, supporting team

effectiveness and engagement, and advising/coaching business leaders for organizational and people

management. You are sometimes involved with hiring process to attract good talent, as well as

onboarding new leaders. You will work with local HRBPs or global/regional COEs to implement COE coordinated initiatives in Japan, such as performance management, talent management, new HR related processes/policies.

Additionally, this role will serve as the lead for Employee Relations in Japan. You will take an objective

role in listening to employee concerns, addressing misconduct, and helping the organization navigate

complex people issues in a way that is fair, compliant, and responsibly manages potential risks across

Japan as well. An assignment to business might be changed in a few years because of job rotation.

Your work will include partnering with global and site leaders as well as functional global HR Business

Partners and COE partners. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to make a positive

impact and contribute to the growth and evolution of a key market lending to Gilead’s worldwide

success and enabling reach and support for the patient population we serve.

Essential Duties and Job Functions:

• Partners with the HR Senior Director and senior leadership of customer functions to provide the

strategic and operational support for establishment of organization or organizational change and

other new initiatives.

• Locally designs and/or implements programs in accordance with company-wide human

resources policies, procedures and initiatives.

• Working with client group management, influences people managers to make changes in organizational

structure or processes to support growth within the organization.

• Serves as a support advisor/coach to client group management and is responsible for identifying the need

for HR programs or strategies to support business objectives, as well as strategic direction.

• Serves as integrated part of the business, working with and advising the managers of respective

client groups to align with and assist in accomplishing broader business objectives.

• Provides senior management with an interpretation of current HR policies and may facilitate the

training of managers and supervisors on HR programs and policies.

• Partners with the HR COEs to deliver customized programs and services to the business in the areas

of organizational development, performance management, compensation, employee relations,

training and staffing.

• Provides subject matter expertise on a broad range of ER issues in Japan

• Has sound knowledge of HR policies and practices

• Provides guidance to HR Business Partners and Business Managers on managing Gilead's

employment risk

• Contributes towards and takes an active part in business change projects including

acquisitions/people integration, restructurings and reorganizations.

• Provides ER support with virtually no immediate direction and exercises considerable latitude in

determining objectives and approaches to individual situations and projects.

• Develops and conducts presentations to employees and managers on a variety of HR subjects.

Support implementing global/local HR systems or tools, such as language check, UAT, etc.

Knowledge, Skills and Experience:

• 10+ years of relevant business experience and bachelor’s degree preferably with an emphasis in

HR or Business with at least 5 of which should be as an HR business partner

• Relevant experience in the Employee Relations field

• Experience working for a US or European based organization is preferred.

• Biotech or pharmaceutical industry experience preferred.

• Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills

• Business level fluency in English and Japanese both written and verbal

• Strong relationship-building, collaboration and consulting skills with stakeholders

• Able to diagnose a situation, identify issues and apply problem-solving skills

• Strong conflict management and resolution skills

• Emotional Intelligence

• Able to act with agility and flexibility, while keeping confidentiality and patience

• Proven proficiency in interpreting and applying Human Resources legislation/employment law,

principles, policies, and procedures

• Some international and domestic travel may be required.
