Great news! We’re currently seeking an Engineering Manager to be based in our North York , Ontario Canada manufacturing facility.

Job Summary

As the Engineering Manager , you will serve as a hands-on technical leader, and your responsibilities will include developing innovative solutions, driving continuous improvement, and managing projects within our organization. You will build the Engineering team and function, using best practices and initiate projects related to production, maintenance, health and safety, quality, and environmental aspects. These projects aim to enhance the plant’s capacity, quality, and operational uptime. You will serve as a key member of the business unit’s senior leadership team, and report to the Senior Director of Operations, ASSA ABLOY Canada .

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead, manage and execute engineering initiatives on a day to day basis

  • Plan and design manufacturing processes to meet the organization’s objectives

  • Responsible for overseeing the physical plant’s condition, managing capital budgets and projects

  • Create and drive change, and effectively communicate throughout the organization.

  • Provide accurate and timely project reporting to internal and external stakeholders

  • Develop alternative production methods for new and existing components using Lean tools and techniques.

  • Value engineering on products and processes and lead cost extraction projects.

  • Manage mechanical and electrical installations

  • Maintain engineering records, inspection reports, repair documentation, drawings, and equipment files

  • Establish and guide the implementation of engineering and documentation control practices and procedures

  • Create and manage the project management process to guarantee the timely completion of projects

  • Analyze the layout of equipment, workflow, assembly methods and work force to maximize efficiency; and improving production design for manufacturability

  • Track metrics, introduce KPIs, and develop strategies for improvements (Lean, Preventative Maintenance, TPM, OEE2, Quality control etc.)

  • Establish the level of investment needed in plant and equipment, quantifying the return and justifying expenditure.

  • Supervise Contractors (maintenance, management of property maintenance), and a direct report (Warehouse/Process Improvement Coordinator)

  • Create and organize bill of materials

  • Perform other duties as assigned

    Education and Experience

  • Degree in Mechanical Engineering or Manufacturing Engineering

  • 7+ years of practical experience in a manufacturing environment

  • 2+ years of experience managing people, directly and indirectly

  • Previous experience with CNC equipment and programming

  • Previous experience with key Lean tools: VSM, Line Balancing, Layout and Flow, Kanban, SMED

    Key Competencies

  • Strong Project management skills, Six Sigma, ISO

  • Proficient on AutoCAD/Inventor

  • High degree of problem analysis and problem resolution skills at a functional level

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills

  • Excellent communication skills (written & verbal) with the ability to conduct presentations to all levels

  • Strong documentation skills, reporting skills and computer skills, including Microsoft Office

    Physical Demands and Working Conditions:

  • Manufacturing/industrial environment; some dust and noise

  • Ability to stand and walk daily through manufacturing facility (55,000 sq ft)

  • Occasional domestic or international travel may be required
