Job Description

This Data Engineer has accountability as a data domain subject matter expert, building automated capabilities and data products to accelerate advanced analytics. The data science engineer is responsible for designing and building business interpretable and performant analytics solutions. The data engineer builds systematic, modular and scalable, self-service capabilities to continuously increase the capacity of the advanced analytics team.

The data engineer leverages and shares their deep knowledge of, and experience with, a wide variety of data analytics and technology topics. The data engineer helps others to improve their knowledge and understanding the use of data and technology.

Responsibilities:

Provide data subject matter expertise

  • Responsible for understanding the systems & data environment.

  • Research, explore, and tinker with new data design ideas and related technologies.

  • Collaborate with internal/external data experts.

  • Research & leverage technical documentation to gain a holistic understanding of the data domain.

Support Analytics projects

  • Work with data scientists to transform business requests into value-add data products and capabilities.

  • Work closely with business teams and data scientists to collaboratively assess, understand, improve, and deliver rich data content for analysis.

  • Assist in the development the conceptual/logical data models or semantic layers with appropriate business contexts.

  • Automate, re-build, and re-imagine data processes to increase efficiencies in business processes.

  • Provide tactical support for easier, faster, and better data access, understanding, engineering, visualization, and decision making.

Elevate data and analytics skills in the business

  • Help people in the business better understand the use of data and automation, drawing on a thorough understanding of and

  • Experience with technologies for intelligent automation, data modeling, data management, etc.

  • Identify and guide citizen data scientists in the business to enhance the profitable use of data.

  • Learn salient business concepts from citizen data scientists and enable them to creatively use data technologies.

Qualifications:

  • University degree in quantitative based field (e.g. Mathematics, Physics, and Engineering).

  • 1-2 years of engineering experience in a data or advanced analytics related role.

  • Advanced experience with databases and data lakes.

  • Advanced Experience in SQL, Spark, C#, Python, etc.

  • Advanced Experience in automating data pipelines and working with data transformation tools.

  • Advanced Experience in designing, building, and deploying data science applications.

  • Advanced experience working with internal business contacts to develop analytical solutions.

  • Advanced experience with cloud technologies, particularly Azure.

  • Experience providing data analysis to support management decisions.

  • General knowledge of data science theory & application (e.g. advanced algorithms, Machine Learning, and AI).

  • Experience with analytics tools and visualization tools a plus.

  • Financial services experience desired.

Salary & Benefits

The annual base salary for this role is listed below.

Primary Location

Toronto, Ontario

Salary range is expected to be between

$92,190.00 CAD - $171,210.00 CAD

The actual salary will vary depending on local market conditions, geography and relevant job-related factors such as knowledge, skills, qualifications, experience, and education/training. Employees also have the opportunity to participate in incentive programs and earn incentive compensation tied to business and individual performance.
