Your role

We are seeking a dynamic host for the afternoon radio show Dans la Mosaïque, broadcast live on weekdays from 3pm to 6pm

You are insatiably curious, a natural storyteller with a passion for drawing information, stories and accountability out of interview subjects every day. You are passionate about southwest and the GTA, are deeply familiar with its diverse population and have a strong desire to give listeners knowledge and insight to understand the news.

You bring curiosity but also something more: a demonstrated openness to diverse perspectives and ideas. You understand how to use a full range of tones to create strong radio programming. You are enthusiastic about experimenting with talk formats and innovative story treatments.

You will play a key role in helping us connect with, and grow, new audiences through the range of stories and perspectives presented on the program, as well as through regular outreach and public events across the GTA.

You live and promote the values of an inclusive and respectful work culture. As one of the team leaders, you demonstrate a positive attitude with colleagues and are always looking for creative solutions to challenges.

Key tasks:

  • Help plan, conceive and organize the program or program segments.

  • Interact extemporaneously with program participants such as guests, reporters, experts and members of the audience.

  • Conduct prepared or improvised interviews on a wide variety of current events.

  • Promote content on our platforms. Contribute to our digital platforms (web and social media) and engage with the audience.

  • Follow current events and maintain your expertise.

  • Participate in public relations or community outreach activities to promote program(s) and/or the Corporation.

  • Represent the Corporation or program in a number of forums.

  • As required, perform the following tasks:

  • Assume production responsibility for the program or program segments.

  • Pitch ideas, suggest and line up interviewees, prepare background notes and questions, and conduct interviews on or off air; provide narration and linking continuity between program segments.

  • Present segments or content on other TV/radio programs.

What you bring?

  • University degree or equivalent in a related field.

  • Five years of comparable radio hosting experience or relevant experience that demonstrates knowledge of the broadcast or a related industry.

  • Thorough understanding of issues and events particular to the GTA, Ontario and Franco-Ontarians.

  • In-depth knowledge of regional, national and international affairs.

  • Wide range of genuine interests, knowledge and insight, reflecting curiosity in many current affairs topics, and an ability to make them relevant to existing and new audiences.

  • Openness to diverse perspectives and ideas.

  • English/French bilingualism (oral and written).

  • Engaging, curious, spontaneous and authentic on-air personality.

  • Widely read, knowledgeable and nuanced thinker.

  • Exemplary journalistic skills, including interviewing, storytelling and critical thinking.

  • Ability to function independently and cooperatively in a small team setting while collaborating with other teams and units within CBC/Radio-Canada.

  • Ability to work effectively under deadline pressure.

  • Genuinely loves public outreach and is an enthusiastic ambassador of public broadcasting and the program.

  • Knowledge of and creative ideas around the use of social media and digital platforms to connect with and grow audiences.

  • Technical skills, including field recording and audio editing, an asset.

We want to hear from you! Please include a link to samples of your on-air work in your cover letter.

Candidates may be subject to skills and knowledge testing.

We thank all applicants for their interest, but only candidates selected for an interview will be contacted.
