Director of Material Operations
Position Summary
Under direct leadership the Director of Material Operations manages the shipping and receiving, material handling, inventory management, and production scheduling teams to ensure the cost-effective and efficient ordering, processing, and kitting of materials in a manner that demonstrates, “Everything is Important.” This role works closely with leadership to create and maintain successful partnerships and processes.
This is an onsite role at our at our facilities in Torrance and Carson, California.
Essential Functions
Directs operations and teams for inventory management, material handling, and shipping and receiving at HQ and the Materials Velocity Center (MVC)
Accountable for inventory controls, perpetual inventory reporting, on-time delivery of material from inventory to production, and packaging solutions to prevent damage to parts
Responsible for inventory planning and kitting process to deliver materials line-side to production cells
Ensures inventory accuracy and cycle counts are meeting finance requirements
Ensures Shipping & Receiving processes are in place and support Procure-to-Pay process
Leads the Material Operations process by ensuring clear performance metrics are in place to measure team performance, i.e. stock in plant, goods in throughput, pick performance etc.
Creates and manages a process which has the Material Operations team escalating operational and production risk well in advance and acting as the function which drives key stakeholders within the organization to resolve such risks with minimal or zero impact to production
Leads 5S initiatives within the team to ensure the facility is maintained and represents the Singer brand, and operating within the health and safety policy
Reviews performance on a frequent basis, identifying, proposing, and implementing clear recommendations for improvements in operational efficiency and effectiveness
Manages the overall vision and plan for Material Operations support for future Singer programs considering warehousing and linefeed in line with the Supply Chain, Freight and packaging strategy
Implements processes for and manages the mailroom for Singer HQ
Responsible for Receiving Inspections and ensuring parts meet specifications
Performs other duties as assigned
Qualifications
Required Education/Experience:
Ten (10) plus years of related experience in Leadership within Supply Chain
Proven ability to manage inventory teams
Proven ability to implement systems and tools for material operations
Preferred Education/Experience and/or Certifications:
Proficient in SQL and Fishbowl
Experience in aerospace or automotive manufacturing
Prior experience in rapid growth environment
Skills/Abilities and Attributes
Proficient in MS Office, ERP and WMS systems, being able to influence how the systems work and positively affect the business
Strong organizational and problem-solving skills, with the ability to prioritize effectively and efficiently
Team oriented, strong ability to multi-task and work in a fast-paced environment to multiple deadlines
Hold a passion for coaching and motivating people
Have a proactive approach to leadership and influencing those around them
Have a flexible approach to working hours and practice
Can maintain the very highest levels of attention to detail even when under pressure

Physical Demands/Work Environment
Must have ability to speak clearly and distinctly and hear and be heard and understood in person and by telephone
Must be able to work an early schedule and overtime as needed
Must be able to wear appropriate PPE in the production environment
Must be able to bend, stretch, push, pull, and move with up to 25 lbs. of force
Must be able to use fingers, hands, and arms at a computer keyboard for extended periods
Must maintain a valid California Driver’s License with a good driving record and appropriate insurance limits and/or be insurable under the Singer’s company vehicle insurance policy
Compensation
The starting pay range for this position is between $177,840 to $222,300 per year. Actual compensation will be determined by skills, experience, and relevant education or training.
