GFL Industries Senior Human Resource Generalist in Traverse City, Michigan

The Sr. HR Generalist supports the operational and human resources needs of approximately 400+ employees working across the Northern Michigan Region. The Sr. HR Generalist reports to the Director of HR Operations and serves as the primary HR subject matter expert for Northern Michigan as well as the main point of contact for day-to-day questions and support associated with the interpretation, administration and compliance of HR-related policies, practices and cases spanning the employment lifecycle. HR Partnership * Provides counsel and support to managers/supervisors on issues of company/HR policy application, production operation Human Resource needs and provides HR services to team members. * Works with operations to resolve employee relations issues. Investigates, counsels and assists in resolving disputes. * Provide guidance on employment related issues (such as ADA, FMLA, FLSA, harassment, discrimination, diversity, corrective action and progressive discipline) to operations leadership. * Assist with the organization's performance management process by coaching, educating, and providing feedback to managers/supervisors. Team Member Engagement: * Practices strong engagement with all team members including accepting diversity of ideas and thoughts, sharing responsibility for success, demonstrating honesty and integrity, helping employees solve problems and showing respect. * Creates and develops model for sustaining positive employee relations and positive culture building. * Provide counseling and direction to employees, facilitate communication, and help to resolve conflicts that impact employee engagement. HR Policies & Procedures: * Monitor HR related policies and practices to ensure consistency with compliance requirements. * Assist in creating and updating policies and designing supporting forms, workflow documentation and knowledge base resources (e.g., SharePoint). * Serve as the point of contact for HR policy and compliance questions and concerns. * Facilitate HR processes and operations programs to ensure ethical, fair and consistent approach. Compliance: * Provide input into HR workflows to ensure compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations. * Oversee employment record keeping, posting and retention systems and fulfill compliance reporting and related obligations. Employee Relations: * Case manage end-to-end employee relations, performance discussions, reasonable accommodations, open enrollment, separations and leave of absence matters. * Consult with managers in preparation for employee relations, performance improvement or separation related conversations. * Attends and participates in employee disciplinary meetings, terminations, and investigations. * Assist with employment investigations. Projects & Initiatives: * Support various ongoing and ad-hoc projects and initiatives (e.g., DEI, training/professional development, talent calibration, succession planning, etc.). * Collaborate with HR professionals within the HR organization. Workplace Metrics & Insights: * Proactively monitor internal employment metrics, such as recruitment trends, workforce composition, retention, performance, and other related indicators of employment health. * Identify trends, analyze key drivers and raise opportunities for improvement to workflows, communications and other interventions that contribute to being an employer of choice. * Prepares reports and identifies trends in employee related issues, turnover and performance trends and provides solutions to operations leadership. Recruiting: * Support recruiting efforts and participate in the planning and execution of activities and events to fill all open positions in the assigned area. * Conduct pre-employment screenings and facilitate onboarding when needed. #GFLTALEN We thank you for your interest.
