Schaeffler Group USA Engineer – Product Development in Troy, Michigan

Engineer -- Product Development sought by Schaeffler Group USA Inc. in Troy, MI. 

Position Duties: Lead product development of hydraulic cam phasers for engines for OEM customers and Tier 1. Ensure function and durability of Schaeffler hydraulic cam phasers for engines in the customer vehicle system. Review, interpret, and implement customer test / analysis specifications as required. Achieve program success and timing defined by the PEP process, utilizing Schaeffler tools. Support and/or act as lead to ensure Schaeffler meets ASPICE requirements. Lead and assist with the design of engine system components. Guide or complete the creation of application specific drawings. Check designs and drawings of individual components, manufacturing (process) drawings and assembly drawings according to customer and/or supplier requirement lists. Verify manufacturing and assembly feasibility with internal and external suppliers through the agreement of drawing requirements. Support Manufacturing with manufacturing equipment, process review, VAVE, design changes and production deviations. Support and initiate meetings with the plants, purchasing, and suppliers to resolve issues. Create, develop, maintain and release DVP&R and acceptance criteria. Complete and sign off the DVP&R together with the Application Engineer. Develop and implement new and revised Test / Analysis procedures as required to support projects. Write test reports in SAP documenting all findings. Lead generation of Design Failure Mode and Effect Analysis (DFMEA) for each product program. Conduct returned parts analyses (RPA) and write reports in SAP. Assess and rank existing competitive components, prepare competitive analysis, and benchmark reports. Support advanced development projects. Create patent applications for the protection of worthy innovations when opportunity exists. 

Minimum Requirements: Bachelor's degree or foreign equivalent in Mechanical Engineering or a related field plus three (3) years of experience in the position offered, as a Design Engineer or a related position. Three (3) years of experience must include: Designing automobile engines and subsystems, including either hydraulic camphasers for engines or clutch discs for automobiles with manual transmission system; analyzing returned parts from tests or vehicle applications for assessment of run time condition and potential failures and preparing technical reports to record the findings; interpreting FEA (finite element analysis) results and implementing improvements to the product durability based on test results; reading, preparing and correcting technical drawings; APQP requirements; creating product specific models and drawings using Software Creo Parametric; Product Data Management programs including Windchill and SAP; design Failure Mode and Effect Analysis (DFMEA) and IQ FMEA software; and GD&T (geometric dimensioning and tolerancing). Travel required to various and unanticipated Schaeffler locations and client sites throughout the U.S., 10%. Telecommuting permitted two days per week.
