Job Summary:

Caterpillar’s Tracked Products Engineering Heavy Structures team is currently seeking a candidate to serve as the Fabrication Value Chain Specialist. The Fabrication Value Chain Specialist will work with the design teams that have responsibility for the Heavy Structures on Large Track Type Tractors, Surface Rock Drills, Hydraulic Mining Shovels, Electric Rope Shovels, and Draglines. The team supports the Caterpillar factories and suppliers for these product lines worldwide. Due to the high complexity and high cost inherit in heavy structures, the Fabrication Value Chain Specialist will work with the designers, manufacturing, and suppliers in all stages of the value chain to diagnose and resolve safety issues, defects, process inefficiencies, and cost challenges. In addition, this individual will also connect the different product lines and facilities to drive common processes and leverage lessons learned. What you will do:

  • Influence new designs and design changes to align with Manufacturing Standards and Lean principles in team working sessions, design reviews, manufacturing reviews, and 1 on 1 coaching.

  • Provides direction and guidance to other manufacturing personnel (internal and external) in a continuous effort to improve manufacturing safety, quality, and productivity.

  • Evaluate tooling designs and its impact on product design functionality along with manufacturing process repeatability.

  • Provide direction on inspection plans, inspection methods, and Built in Quality (BIQ) gates.

  • Develop or evaluate production routing times and production cost estimates

  • Help identify, diagnose, and implement solutions to high defect and high rework areas.

  • Ability to manage changes in the production environment and processes effectively by developing process implementation and control plans.

  • Champion APQP to ensure Engineering, Purchasing, and Manufacturing both at Caterpillar and suppliers are involved in the approval process so that sound decisions are made which improve manufacturing processes, quality and/or reduce costs.

  • Provides leadership in the implementation of integrated technologies within the factory.

Degree Requirement :

Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or Manufacturing or equivalent industry experience desired

What Skills you will have:

Process Management : Knowledge of business process improvement tools and techniques; ability to understand, monitor, update, control, or enhance existing business or work processes. Level Extensive Experience:

• Helps others learn the tools and techniques for process value analysis.

• Carries out process evaluation, diagnosis, and optimization.

• Demonstrates a thorough understanding of a major process flow, its components and issues.

• Synchronizes the efforts of, and resource requirements for, several teams within a process.

• Makes the business case for new processes, including their cost-benefit ratios.

• Possesses knowledge of tools and techniques for designing and implementing new processes.

• Manufacturing experience and expertise in the fabrication fields of welding, machining, first ops, casting, inspection, manufacturing technology, etc.

• Exposure with Lean Manufacturing

• Experience with APQP

• Experience with project management tools

• Experience with SAP, Creo, and Team Center.

Analytical Thinking : Knowledge of techniques and tools that promote effective analysis; ability to determine the root cause of organizational problems and create alternative solutions that resolve these problems. Level Extensive Experience :

• Seeks discrepancies and inconsistencies in available information; explains variances.

• Organizes and prioritizes the sequence of steps to be taken to remedy the situation.

• Identifies many possible causes for a problem based on prior experience and current research.

Effective Communications : Understanding of effective communication concepts, tools and techniques; ability to effectively transmit, receive, and accurately interpret ideas, information, and needs through the application of appropriate communication behaviors. Level Extensive Experience :

• Adapts documents and presentations for the intended audience.
