Ascension St. John Medical Center, OK is looking to hire a Vice President of Foundation Development.

Serving Oklahoma for nearly 100 years, Ascension St. John operates six hospitals and more than 90 healthcare clinics and

Responsibilities

JOB SUMMARY

Develops, implements, and takes accountability for the Foundation strategic plan that aligns with the mission, vision, and values of Ascension Oklahoma. Provides oversight for and ensures achievement of fundraising goals.

  • Reports to the Ministry Market President and CEO

  • Develops strategy and growth business/marketing plans in conjunction with executive leadership. Monitors industrial and national trends and forecasts to develop priorities aimed towards growth objectives.

  • Develops and implements policies and procedures which guide and support the provision of services and meet all productivity plans. Creates a culture of continuous quality improvement in service delivery and innovation.

  • Collaborates with fundraising and operations leadership to define, implement, and continually enhance processes and strategies that guide and support the identification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship of donors. Manages a portfolio of major gift donors with capacity to give $100,000 or more annually.

  • Leads financial planning. Develops budgets and achieves financial targets. Ensures that department operations comply with applicable regulatory and accreditation standards.

  • Oversees communication with key constituencies on a regular basis, including market executive leadership and the Foundation Board. Serves as primary liaison to the Foundation Board and maintains a vital and productive fundraising Board, and (in some Foundations) other, subsidiary Boards.

  • Creates a culture that attracts, develops, and retains qualified employees by energizing and motivating staff through coaching, teaching, and providing opportunities for advancement.

Responsibilities:

Department Management

  • Grows philanthropy by developing new forms of revenue and asset creation to sustain Health Ministry operations and mission.

  • Develops and implements strategy and growth business plans in conjunction with executive leadership. Monitors industry and national trends in fundraising and forecasts to develop priorities aimed toward growth objectives.

  • Leads a staff of 2 individuals focused on philanthropy, fundraising, and foundation operations, and volunteerism, with the opportunity to build the team.

  • Creates a culture and environment that attracts, develops, and retains qualified associates. Creates a shared vision. Develops, energizes, and motivates staff through example, coaching, and teaching.

  • Leads financial planning. Develops budgets and achieves financial targets. Ensures that department operations comply with applicable regulatory and accreditation standards.

  • Provides independent leadership to forge sophisticated and creative partnerships that leverage existing stakeholders and resources while expanding and diversifying the organization's networks and donor base.

Strategy & Leadership

  • As a direct report to the Ministry Market President and CEO, serve as a representative of the localministry when called upon.

  • Advance the mission, vision, and values of the Foundation in partnership with the Foundation’sBoard of Directors and Ascension St. John CEO and all executive leadership colleagues.

  • Work in partnership with the CEO and executive leadership colleagues to execute the Foundation’s new strategic plan.Provide leadership for short- and long-term planning.

  • Grow leadership within the volunteer base; by assisting the CEO and Board in identifying andcultivating prospective leadership volunteer candidates for Board roles.

  • Build, develop, and maintain effective and mutually beneficial partnerships with key stakeholderswithin the Foundation to facilitate ongoing awareness and support to raise funds.

Fundraising

  • Develops and implements plans for capital and major fundraising initiatives.

  • Provide oversight to the fundraising programs, consisting of individual donors, corporatepartners, community event partners, as well as principal, transformational, and planned giving.

  • Development of multi-year, multi-source national and international fundraising strategies with afocus on revenue expansion and unrestricted funding in alignment with the Foundation’s strategicplans.

  • Lead by utilizing a culture of data, overseeing the establishment of annual business plans, KPIs and a process of data gathering, reporting, and analysis to inform the fundraising strategy.

  • Build and manage a personal portfolio of principal and transformational giving at the individual and corporate prospects/donors to achieve personal revenue targets.

  • Develop and implement a stewardship program aimed at cultivating deeper ties with donors in partnership with key internal stakeholders.

  • Lead the ongoing growth of the donor pipeline in a methodical and strategic manner, supported by the prospect research team.

  • Develops relationships between organization and philanthropists at the highest level and provides these individuals with opportunities for involvement and investment.

  • Formulates and implements operational strategies and initiatives pertaining to the identification,cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship of donors.

Requirements

Qualifications

Education:

● Bachelor’s Degree is required, preferably in Business, Finance, Healthcare Administration, Fund

Development, or a related field and

● Ten (10) years of experience in fund development, coalition building, and/or finance

management.

● Master’s Degree preferred.

Additional Preferences

Knowledge Skills and Abilities:

● Proven track record securing transformational gifts from individual, foundation and corporate

donors with deep expertise in all aspects of fundraising, including pipeline development,

cultivation and solicitation of gifts at the seven-figure level and above.

● Demonstrated experience developing and implementing comprehensive fundraising strategies to

promote, support, and meet the revenue deliverables.

● Demonstrated success in building and retaining a high-performing team by inspiring, developing,

and mentoring staff and building future leaders.

● Business planning and financial acumen.

● Strong written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to constructively

contribute to discussions and build rapport at all levels of the Foundation and Hospitals, from

front-line staff to the Board of Directors.

● Demonstrated ability to build donor relations plans across all categories of giving with success in

creating strategies that convert donors to higher levels of giving.

● Experience managing a complex budget and professional / finance staff.

● Experience recruiting and supporting senior volunteers directly involved in philanthropic

cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship.

● Proficiency with donor databases and systems. Experience with Blackbaud CRM (Customer

Relationship Management) is considered an asset.

● Passion for healthcare philanthropy and the Foundation’s mission, vision, and values.

● High emotional intelligence enables the best conditions for strong relationships and trusts within

the Foundation and Hospitals, as well as donors and leadership volunteers.
