Assistant Office Engineer (TE2) *Olympia, WA -- Olympic Region  $65,748 -- $88,416 Annually  * Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT) is currently seeking a Transportation Engineer 2 to serve as an Assistant Office Engineer for the Lacey Project Engineer Office (PEO). The Assistant Office Engineer will independently perform skilled journey level technical work in support of engineering projects. At this level, the employee is expected to exercise initiative and judgment in independently carrying out assignments according to established policies, procedures, and standards. This position provides essential support in monitoring contractor's business activities during construction and ensuring project paperwork is performed in accordance with contracts. This position independently performs contract payments, reviews of pay note documentation, approval of pay note documentation and audits the contractor on their business practices. Duties: * Accomplishes engineering construction human resource objectives by selecting, orienting, training, assigning, scheduling, coaching, counseling, and disciplining employees; communicating job expectations; planning, monitoring, appraising job contributions; recommending compensation actions; adhering to policies and procedures. * Meets engineering construction operational standards by contributing engineering construction information to strategic plans and reviews; implementing production, productivity, quality, and customer-service standards; resolving problems; identifying engineering construction system improvements. * Meets engineering construction financial standards by providing annual budget information; monitoring expenditures; identifying variances; implementing corrective actions. * Manages construction contracts by preparing bid documents and contracts; coordinating contract execution; obtaining and maintaining documentation; maintaining contract records. * Controls costs by preparing material bids; preparing purchase orders; selecting vendors. * Maintains materials and supplies by developing procedures for receiving and storing materials and supplies; establishing delivery schedules; expediting orders. * Avoids legal challenges by enforcing regulations. * Provides project information by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing data and trends; maintaining databases and files. * Updates job knowledge by tracking new legal requirements; participating in educational opportunities; reading professional publications; maintaining personal networks; participating in professional organizations. * Accomplishes engineering and organization mission by completing related results as needed.
