TEXAS DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION E280 Transportation Design Engineer I, II, or III in Tyler, Texas

Performs transportation engineering work in one or more functional areas such as planning, project development and design, construction, transportation/traffic operations and/or maintenance. Ensures compliance with applicable federal and state laws, policies, procedures, standards and guidelines. Work requires contact with governmental officials and private entities. Employees at the Transportation Engineer I level follow standard practices that do not require frequent supervision of details.Employees at the Transportation Engineer II level perform work independently on assignments; however all unusual issues are referred to the supervisor.Employees at the Transportation Engineer III level establish their own work plan and priorities to meet set objectives. Issues are rarely referred to the supervisor but are handled at the occurrence.Essential Duties: Transportation Engineer IMay serve as a lead worker and the related tasks.Performs and/or coordinates the review and processing of Plans, Specifications Estimates (PSE) submission, specialspecifications or special provisions.Performs engineering design work such as development of layouts, sketches, plans, specifications, estimates andcontracts.Provides design engineering support for districts in project development.Reviews and revises schematics, PSE, project designs, shop drawings and field changes for traffic control devices,signals, signs, markings, detours, traffic control plans, electrical distribution and roadway lighting and traffic managementsystems.Performs other job responsibilities as assigned.Transportation Engineer II - all of the above duties andPerforms complex engineering design work such as development of layouts, sketches, plans, specifications, estimates andcontracts.Assists with design, computer operations and plan preparation.Transportation Engineer III - all of the above duties andPerforms advanced and complex engineering design work such as development of layouts, sketches, plans, specifications,estimates and contracts.Performs complex hydrologic and hydraulic analysis of structures over waterways and summarizes the analysis in reportform.Reviews and supports Standard Operating Procedures for maintaining and archiving project schedules; managing resources;managing budgets; managing project changes, and managing quality performance measurements.Utilizes project management principles in initiating, planning, executing, monitoring, controlling and closing forcomplex transportation projects.
