  • Ensure the safe running of the Cryo-EM facility. Implement and monitor health and safety processes, develop lab protocols, and risk assessments.

  • Lead on the strategic and operational management of the Cryo-EM facility.

  • Operate Titan Krios and Talos Arctica transmission electron microscopes for cryo-EM data collection and maintenance of these microscopes by communicating with ThermoFisher Scientific service team.

  • Operate and maintenance of equipment for cryo-EM specimen preparation.

  • Train Penn State cryo-EM users to operate equipment for cryo-EM specimen preparation and cryo-EM data collection.

  • Support and interact with other researchers and faculty members at Penn State to enable macromolecular structure determination by cryo-EM in support of their various projects.

  • Analyze cryo-EM data collections including contrast transfer function estimation, particle picking through neural network algorithms, frame alignment, 2D classification, 3D ab-initio reconstructions, 3D classification through heterogeneous refinement, homogeneous refinement, masked local refinement, particle polishing, and 3D variability.

  • Train and mentor researchers in cryo-EM data processing using various state-of-the-art software for 3D reconstructions and atomic model building, and in the fundamentals of cryo-EM sample handling and preparation.

  • Provide consultancy services to researchers in the field of life science, assisting them in implementing the optimal structural biology solutions.
